Hi, We Share our views or ideas with the help of language. We are very comfortable while speaking in our mother tongue. We should try to improve our children's language. They should present their thoughts in their mother tongue. In some convent schools children are forced to speak in English only. So parents also talk with each other in English. But children should not forget their mother tongue. Do you speak in English even though your mother tongue is other than English? How many languages do you know? I can speak English, Marathi is my mother tongue and Hindi is my national language.

Hi, My native language is Lithuanian. Lithuanian language has similarities with Sanskrit. Lithuanian language is the least altered from the Proto-Indo-Europeans. I can speak in German, English and Russian, Polish, Czech other Slavic languages. All flowers beautiful - but they are all different - just like we are. Native language, Traditions (tale, legend, etc.), allows you and to give understand, who you are. You probably noticed how much I love and respect my language, but ... If so happened that you went to live in another country - the language should know better than your own, so that you, your children can integrate into society. Without the local language you "nothing" being outside your country. Now you need to know two traditions, languages... etc.

Hi, Most of the words in Marathi are from Sanskrit. All our religious books are in Sanskrit. India's original language is Sanskrit. It is very nice that you can speak many foreign languages. Thank you for the response.

I would think that children who speak another language other that English and live in America should learn English as should their parents. I am appalled at people who come here from other countries and don't even try to learn the language. I speak English and no a little of several other languages. Not much.

I remember during my Grade School Days, English language was strictly implemented. And anyone caught not speaking in English will be fined. We are to pay 25 cents per non-English word. I just don't recall where the money goes after.

i agree with you and also let me add, language is the most common use for communication. here in the philippines, the new curriculum in education implemented mother tongue from grade one to grade three. i must inform you that in the philippines we have lots of dialects. so a particular place in here have a spoken dialect of their own. so it means to say, relatively, the dialect being used in a certain place must be used in their medium of instructions. but as they reach higher level of grades, speaking english is already required. so thanks for this wonderful information of yours :)

That is correct my friend that mother tongue should be the basis of instructions in schools. Here in the Philippines only English and Pilipino are taught in schools Unlike in my native Cebu, where I have started schooling, that I have heard our own dialect Cebuano was taught in government run public schools, yet the school where I was enrolled teaches only Pilipino and English.Pilipino is our national language based in Tagalog.I also know a little Chinese and Spanish.

I wish I could be fluent in another language apart from English, but unfortunately languages are not my strong point, I took French in school but never became fluent enough, and I passed, barely. I would love to be bi-lingual. I had a friend at school who found languages so easy that he could actually learn them with a few months, and he became fluent in them too, no wonder he became a professor. I do admire people with the talent of having more than one language.

Hi, I think your mother tongue is English. I don't know any foreign language. Marathi is my mother tongue and Hindi is our national language. So I should know them. If my mother tongue is English then I might not have learned other languages. Thank you for the response.

I speak Hindi whole day, but I read the Engineering books in English, and I use Hindi and English both when I talking about the Engineering subjects to the others. I think both of the languages are important to me. I can talk to the peoples around me, in Hindi because maximum people speak Hindi in Himachal Pradesh, but English is important when it comes to the engineering and technology.

I speak 3 languages. If you look at from where i was born and the first language i learned perspective then my mother tongue is one. MY second language is two. And my third language is English. But if i look at it from the perspective of how i speak the languages then i don't have a mother tongue, i speak all 3 of the languages more or less equally well. With perfect accents and i can read the alphabets and write in all 3 of those differend alphabets. The only problem with not having a mother tongue is that although i speak 3 languages Very Good. I speak no language Perfectly. That is my only regret, sort to say.

I can speak in English, hindi and oriya. Oriya is my mother tongue. Yes, I have yet to rectify some grammar mistakes in English, which i hope would not be long. English is necessary, but we should not forget about our mother tongue. And yes, they should present their thoughts in mother tongue at least in home. If everyone in india will just try to speak in English, than what would happen to other languages ? Many of the professors, popular teachers, they never studied in any English Medium school. But yet they can talk very clearly in English without any problem. So, English talking is not really necessary at an early age. they can learn with time. Its just a type of fashion using English , just a show-off and nothing else.

I know English and Hindi,i can understand Konkani and Marathi. Also i know some of the abusive words of Japanese and Phlilipino language,my friends from there taught me those words in our fun time.Parents try to teach their children English because child learns fast when he/she is 4-5 years old and strong English ensures that you will have advantage over others when you face competitive exams. So the preparation starts at young age, however this should not be done forcefully but by a suitable method.Best wishes.

I highly appreciate your views. You are absolutely right.I am an Indian too,and my mother tongue is Hindi. My state language is Oriya.I want to learn as many languages of my country as I can.I agree with you that we educated Indians prefer to talk to each other In English and it's a shame on our great country which have so many rich languages.I never talk to my friends or kids in English.I even inspire them not to use English words if there is a word with the same meaning in our mother tongue.Unfortunately ours is the only country in the world that does not speak in its own language.I appreciate you for this discussion.English is imposed on us.

I do agree that English is an international language. Besides our national language and mother tongue, it is also important for our children to be able to speak and write English fluently. Nowadays, people are travelling everywhere and it is good and great advantage to learn any other languages . My national language is Bahasa Malayisa, and my mother tongue is Mandarin. However, I can speak English .
