The best rice partner

Philippines

I am a proud Filipina, a proud Batanguena. In Batangas, we are famous for the world-renowned "kapeng barako". It might sound unusual to other nationalities, but Filipinos, specially those from the Southern Luzon region are fond of eating rice in coffee. You pour it on your rice and voila! It's the best soup for me because I can eat it with any fried viand. Fried fish preferably, but pork chops can do. Yum! What is your favorite rice partner? :) Let's compare notes. :)

I don't want to pollute my coffee with anything. I am a coffee purist. I eat rice many ways. I made sushi rice today. I will make avocado and cucumber sushi with white sushi rice. I like rice with all types of beans. Black beans are great when I can find them. Red rice is the best on its own. I love red rice. It is nutty in flavor.

It is simple. I buy fresh beans. Roast my own coffee. And most important, I don't pollute my coffee with additives. In the States I could buy really good beans already roasted. I bought Pete's coffee back when it was a small shop the size of a closet. Starbucks coffee is garbage. Those frapachinos, mocha lattes and all the other fancy coffee drinks with milk and sugar are garbage. My coffee is so good you don't want to add anything to it. Now I want a cup of coffee. I'm drinking a mint tea. Yumm. I hope you can find red rice. It'a a variety of Thai rice. We have at least a dozen varieties of rice in the supermarket. It is much better than the brown rices I have tried. Being a whole grain it has more fiber. More fiber fills you up faster, keeps you full longer and helps with digestion, emptying your bowels.

Thank you for the enlightenment. :) I will definitely try roasting my own coffee. Here in our town, we grow the best coffee in the Philippines called "kapeng barako". My grandma cooks it herself by boiling it with water and it's really good. :) I have seen red rice from the supermarket but I have never tried it. I will, soon. :)

Hi there. :) I have never heard of a coffee purist, and it kind of interests me. What are your ideologies? I love coffee, too. :) I'm looking forward to trying red rice. :) Thank you for the suggestion. :)

For me, the best partner of rice would be fried porkchop marinated in soy sauce and calamansi. And that would go best with black coffee! yummy!

Hey, I'm also a Filipina and both of my parents hailed from Batangas too! And yeah I love my rice coffee, but I don't like them together that way. For me, my rice partner, whether it is plain and steamed or fried is "hawot"/tuyo (dried fish).

It's cool to find people from Batangas here in myLot. :)) Dried fish is really good, specially when you eat them on rainy or cold days. The best!

It's so delicious redtesha. :) In fact, I can eat anything with my rice and coffee. :) It's especially good when you eat it when the weather is chilly, more so if it's raining. :)

Beans or peas and rice with chunks of smoked ham or bacon. Learned something new. Never heard of rice and coffee.
This dish is very common in the Bahamas and the Caribbean. The pigeon peas are actually a bean. So basically you have rice and beans in one dish. Of course anything with bacon, well need I say more? The thyme adds a wonderful flavor to the dish as well. Pi
