One of my hobbies is making soap. I haven;t done it very many times, so all I know are the easiest recipes: glycerin, essential oils for scent and a mold. Melt the glycerin, add oil, pour into mold and set. I gave them as gifts one year. Anyone have any other recipes, suggestions? Would LOVE to hear them!

Decorative_Soaps - Decorative_Soaps
Many soaps are mixtures of sodium (soda) or potassium (potash) salts of fatty acids which can be derived from oils or fats by reacting them with an alkali (such as sodium or potassium hydroxide) at 80°–100 °C in a process known as saponification. The fats are hydrolyzed by the base, yielding glycerol and crude soap. Historically, the alkali used was potassium made from the deliberate burning of vegetation such as bracken, or from wood ashes. Soap is derived from either oils or fats. Sodium tallowate, a common ingredient in many soaps, is in fact derived from rendered beef fat. Soap can also be made of vegetable oils, such as olive oil. Soap made entirely from such oils, or nearly so, is called castile soap. The use of the word "soap" has become such a household name that even cleaning solutions for the body that don't have soap in the ingredients are referred to as soap. But i dont make it personally myself

I love making goat milk soap, the greatest hint I've come across is to freeze the goats milk and add it frozen, (it helps keep the chemical reaction cooler when you add the lye.) I freeze it in ziplock bags and cut them off. Also, I've read that using a stick blender is a fantastic time saver, but I haven't bought one yet to try it. There are tons of fantastic recipes on the net, just search goat milk soap.

Wow! Goat milk soap... that's interesting. I've never made soap the "old fashioned" way, with lye. That's why I posted the question here. I was hoping to get some ideas on how that's done. I know lye is very caustic. Is it difficult? Anyway thanks for posting!

Have a nice day - Have a nice day
I have had friends make it and say they like to make it. I haven't made any personally. Though, it is on my list. I want to make soap, candles, and perfume. Haven't had time lately to research it. Thanks for reminding me though. I will research it soon!

also try making a body scrub. Use epson salt, table salt or kosher salt, olive oil, a squeeze of citric acid ( lemon juice or orange juice) and mix. Than add a fragrance. Put it in a pretty bottle(your local dollar store always has them). Throw it all into a basket and decorate woth a ribbon! You have a lovely homemade body set any lady will love. ps for sensitive skin you can use sugar instead of salt.

I love homemade soaps. I am just now beginning to make my own. I am not doing the pour your own glycerin.I have made that kind often. Now I am making the goats milk and oat kind. I have just ordered my supplies but have not received them yet. It is great for sensitive skin and it makes my skin feel so soft. I just love it. I have a friend that makes many different kinds and sells it.
