The strange reason to shave the dog

dog - shave the dog

My colleague shaved her dog and her dog looks so weird and even ugly in my opinion. I asked her why she had to shave the dog. She said it would be easier to handle since the dog often fell the hair everywhere. I was in shock to hear that since I don't like this reason. I can only accept to shave a dog if the dog has some skin problems.

Hmm, to shave the dog only because there was hair everywhere? I don't see this as a solution. The dog must have been checked to see if there isn't a skin condition that caused that loss of hair. If he was healthy, regular combing and brushing would have been enough for the house to be maintained clean and free of dog hair.

Sure, I somewhat think it is a torture for a dog to shave all of its hair.

I don't really think it is a torture. But it doesn't help him too much. If the weather is hot, he will feel more warmth, because his coat is used to regulate the body temperature. If the weather is cold, he will feel cold and he will need a piece of cloth to keep him warm. Being dressed is something dogs don't like. Only his human could benefit of this "torture". The dog won't!

Not sure about the torture. When I told my vet, she says we have to sedate the dog if we are really gonna shave him. Regarding clothes, my dog doesn't like as well. Good thing he has a very beautiful coat.

Some dog owners will do something like that to give themselves convenience as they go on business as usual in taking care of their pet business daily, they refuse to acknowledge the fact that dog's hair on its body play a vital role in regulating the temperature of the animal, it keep the dog warm in winter and cool during summer through its sweat gland. Shaving the hair off the dog's body will only make him difficult to adjust naturally to his ambient temperature, add to his already miserable life under a stupid human owner base on selfish reason. If she feel like not doing all these clean up chorus after her pet, then she shouldn't own a pet in the first place, people like this has no business to adopt any animal at all not just a dog if they only think for the sake of their convenience only in their decision.

It is just like that some masters even have the operation for the dogs so that they can't bark anymore.

I believe your colleague action is a result out of her own selfish thought, it is quite obvious after shaved the hair of the dog body, she doesn't have to clean up those fallen hair in her castle anymore, while the dog will have difficulty adjusting to the temperature outside and keep itself warm, even looking ugly to others may not bother your colleague a bit. I am just feeling sorry for the dog and his abusive owner. If he go on barking whole day, i am sure she will have him go through operation to remove his vocal chord to keep her house quiet, judging at her present action, i am no doubt she will stop at nothing on that poor dog for her own self interests first. Your colleague is that type of person who should has no business to adopt animals as pet, since she want an easy way out as a pet owner, she should adopt a robot instead of an animal.

If she was that concerned about the dog hair falling everywhere, why on earth did she go out and get a dog that shed hair, or importantly why did she get an animal if she is going to do that to it, it's cruel to the poor animal.

There are certain dogs that people shave because they think they are too hot in the summer, Chows are one that lots of folks shave in Texas. I don't know, I've heard that long haired cats, anyway, are cooler because the hair reflects heat away and since they've lost the under coat that keeps them warm in the winter, they are better with their long hair. I personally think that people are reflecting how THEY feel rather than the dog and if the dog is properly groomed the hair isn't a problem. Fact is, that if this woman was brushing her dog every day, that loose hair would be contained.

Hello You Less. A few dog breeds are haven't got hair like the Mexican Hairless dog. My two dogs are miniature poodles. Every 6 to 8 weeks they have their fur cut. Their fur grows and grows. They don't moult so they need this grooming. They need some fur left on them and they are not shaved down to their skin. Your colleague was silly to shave her dog to the skin. Her dog will look weird and ugly. Only if the dog has a skin infection should a person do that. Then medication can be put on the poorly dog's skin. Some dogs moult a lot and once shaven fur or hair can regrow. In hot weather skin can be burnt too. Good luck to her dog.

Oh your friend is not so kind to her dog. It is but normal for dog do have hair falls . All we need to do is to maintain cleanliness inside our house. Sweep the floor every now and then , wear a mask it it is needed . we can cut hair if we wish but not also balding the dog. They are not good to look if they have no hair. Dogs are the cutest , they need our love and care.

That is one lazy and selfish pet owner. Dogs have a coat that regulates their body temperature, keeping them cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Even if a dog is shaved for the summer, you're not supposed to shave them right down to their skin. They should have about an inch of hair at all times. Her dog is susceptible to sunburn and skin infections if she removes its coat. If people have a big problem with pet hair, they need to research how much a breed sheds before they select that dog as their pet.

I'm quite involved with the dog rescue where I have adopted both of my dogs. When they first receive dogs at their center, they are often dirty, matted, their coats are horribly overgrown... all because they have come from situations where they did not receive adequate care or attention. There are a couple of dog groomers that volunteer their time with the rescue and they do an amazing job with the transformations. Even in these extreme cases, it is rare that they will shave a dog right down to the skin.

I think it is a very irresponsible behavior to shave the dog because it falls hair.

I am sorry to say that the dog does not look as handsome as it used to. It is born to be hairy, so withhout the hair, it does not look what it is supposed to whatever reason it might be. When the dog hair grows back all over, I hope she will not shave its hair any more.

You're right, the dog shouldn't be shaved down unless it has skin problems and only in the area of the skin's problems. Every dog is going to shed it's fur especially in the Spring and Summer to get rid of it's winter coat. All she needed to do is get a brush that's shaped in like a rake and just brush off the excess hair and throw it away. She shouldn't have shaved the poor thing down because now it could get sunburned. I hope you tell her this so she can keep an eye on it.

It is quite normal for a dog to fall hair. Human beings will fall hair everyday, too.

It could cause the dog to have skin issues. That is so selfish. Hair on an animal helps them stay warm and is met to be there. It's more for her than for any good it does the dog.

If the dog was shedding most of his hair everyday, then maybe it was best to shave it off instead.

The dog will still have his hair/coat back. Although, it will be an adjustment for the dog without hair and people seeing the dog without his coat.

I believe dogs have the hair they do for a reason and other then brushing and keeping it clean I don't think there is anything else we should do to their fur.

Yes u are absolutely right, the reason that your friend gave was really weird and i think she should not have shaved the dog's hairs because it has nothing to do with its looks or with the falling hairs. If that would have been so then she should not have owned a dog for herself.

That's odd. I have a lint roller I use on my dog. It gets up all the loose hair. I know people might think how weird! But I just roll it up and down her back and all the loose hair is gone. And my dog loves it! I guess it feels good to her.

I have 2 dogs. We've had dogs before and never had to shave them. Even though they had thick hair, they were fine. These 2 are different. As soon as it turns fairly warm, we have to shave them. As close to the skin as we can get. Yes, it's ugly. Yes, it breaks my heart to see them look like that. But we found out the first year, there's something about their coat that's too insulating. They start getting hot spots. They'll keep licking that spot until they hit blood, then keep going. Just shaving that spot means they move to another spot and start again. I don't know about this person. Maybe they thought you wouldn't believe them about hot spots. Most dogs don't have this problem. They'll get hot spots, but it's not constant. I do know about hair everywhere. One of my boys sheds like crazy. He's the worst about the hot spots too. Even after a good brushing, if you pet him you get handfuls of hair still. Their coats are long, luxuriant, and gorgeous. They have manes that are curly and thick. After shaving, they look horrible. But you can see the difference in how they feel. They have more energy and are much more playful. A LOT more playful.

Actually,i am considering to shave my dog. He is long-haired and we have an intense summer. I think that it is a comfort for him if he loses the hair for the moment. If the dog has a severe flea or tick infestation,I would consider that as well. But the whole family will be mad at me. If her dog was shedding too much, perhaps, it's because of the food or other reasons. What's the breed of the dog?

Here I can also see many dogs shaven like sheard sheep in summer.I don't know whether or not the dogs'owners do so in case the dogs should suffer heatstroke.I feel the shaven dogs look neither fish, flesh, nor fowl.

Well, I am a bit by your friend. If she loves to have dog as her pet, but it is rather weird to shave her dog just because its hair fell everywhere . I wouldn't have done that unless the dog has skin problem like what you have shared .
