The New myLot - Coming This Week...

@myLot (127)
Kansas City, Missouri
April 30, 2013 9:22am CST
Later this week, we will launch the most significant revamp myLot has seen since it was born over 7 years ago. myLot has been re-imagined with a clear emphasis on dialog and sharing, and we'll soon be ready to show this to each of you. Users who are here for deep friendships and conversations will love the new myLot. Those who've been here solely to make money will likely soon migrate elsewhere. The famous myLot Earnings Program will be discontinued, effective whenever the new website goes live this week. Users who have accumulated $5 or more in earnings and who have been active during the last 30 days will be paid as normal by May 15. We're certainly aware that this will come as bad news to some of you. While we'll be sad if you decide to leave, we'll still take pride in the fact that close to a million dollars has been paid out collectively to myLot members over the last 7 years, and we were never late on making a payment. Not even once. But now it's time to move on. There is nowhere on the planet that's better for discussing what's on your mind and meeting like-minded people from all around the world than myLot. (And that's a testament to the wonderful members we've had here for so many years.) The new myLot focuses on this, and takes it to the next level. You will find that many of the items on your myLot "wish list" are included in the new myLot. For instance, you will now be able to edit or delete anything you share on myLot. Most of the same myLot Community Guidelines will still apply. This will be a family-friendly community with no tolerance for profanity, flaming, etc. You will now be able to "block" any user you'd prefer not to see anymore. A few key guidelines will be relaxed to help facilitate growth and sharing. For instance, affiliate links will now be allowed and encouraged. Just don't use them in a spammy manner. Those of you who use blogs and Twitter to develop an online following that you monetize through affiliate links will now be able to use myLot in the same way. We know you will have plenty of questions this week, both before and after the launch. GoAskAlice will be around to help fill in a lot of the details. We couldn't be more excited about all of these upgrades, but we know that what makes myLot truly special isn't all the fancy new features... it's the community. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to each of you for making myLot something we all enjoy so much and can be proud of. Wish us luck with the launch! Until then.... THANK YOU and Happy myLotting!

So with the new myLot we can come here and discuss and see referral links all over the place and not get paid? There is nothing original about that and as we already know that the layout is a copy-cat of Twitter it makes me think that I wish there was a middle finger/up yours emote

Seriously disappointed in the powers to be here are so influenced by the power of social media, and are going to follow the herd. I enjoyed making new friends, having interesting discussions, and learning about new cultures. I believed a few years back that we were nothing more than a social experiment-and with this vast change of format, you've just validated my theory. I was part of someone's master thesis; I resent being to be part of a vast experiment that I wasn't asked my permission to join. No thank you!

251,559 members today. I'm curious to see how many will be left a week from now. I haven't been here for the money but it definitely was a good incentive to stick around. Since the earnings have dropped over the years, so has my participation. The closest friends I've made here, I now connect with at facebook. So, please, tell me, what is the incentive to stick around now? It was almost impossible to get referrals to join myLot AND be active. Now, I don't see that happening at all. No, the money certainly was never great but it was fun and, for some, it meant the difference between surviving and not surviving. But, luckily, there are other social sites that still DO pay and I hope everyone who desperately counts on that mere $10.00 a month will migrate toward them. MyLot is becoming no different than dozens of other sites and that is sad. It was the opportunity to make a little money that made it somewhat unique. Now... I'm very sad over this news, especially for some of the icons like Hatley. I'm afraid you've sealed your own fate, myLot, and that fate is not good.

It has been a very long time since I looked, but I have a feeling that "251,559 members" also includes those who cancelled or were cancelled. The only thing they did was clear out those cancelled people from our friend lists.

You're right about the number of members. I doubt many will actually take the time or go to the trouble of actually requesting their accounts be deleted. Still, it will be interesting to see the activity level after this change.

How to completely destroy your online business, in one easy lesson: "The famous myLot Earnings Program will be discontinued, effective whenever the new website goes live this week." I reckon at least 95% of the population will never come back, myself included. There are already dozens of places to do all the stuff the new version does (assuming it's yet another social media attempt, yawn)... and which do it better, are more established and have a bigger following. Goodbye, myLot. It was fun while it lasted but such a stupid move in a direction that's already overpopulated is just...

I'm sorry, but this stinks; not that I won't still use MyLot, for my friends, but I have come to depend on the extra funds. I also have a question, now that money will no longer be involved, will this become a place where there is little control over spam and other things that are against the guidelines?

this is exciting but I do hope I will still be able to make twice the minimum as I love mylot and all my friends here and the earnings while not the most important does keep me on the net as it goes to pay my cable internet bill.Just keep us from being yet another Facebook look alike. I liked the old mylot will I like the new one? I did not ask for all the frills but others did so hope they are happy.

Dear Dear, the earnings after today will be 0.00 in the currency of your choice. This is the end of the paid era of mylot (except for the final payment). I, for one, would have kindly appreciated a chance to reach the final payout with a longer notice, or would have expected that anyone who posted enough for 1$ to be paid, as that normally means about 100 posts.

I am pissed! I will be gone on May 15th! I joined in January of 2009. This is one of the few places I can make money in an honest way! I will now be losing out on at least $10.00 a month! Thanks for changing Mylot and making it worse! It is not easy making money on line!!!! Especially when some of us really could use the extra money every month! I am very pissed and very disappointed with Mylot!!!!!! I will miss my friends who I have made you but must of all I will miss making money here!!!!!!!!!!!! You ruined my day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome for me. Great that you are removing the monetary thing from this site. But the only question I have is - Will the new MyLot be stern on the kinds of discussions? I mean - of late, I have found many many users posting and using this wonderful site as a Blog of theirs. Some have posted poems, some have posted recipes, some have posted many other stuff which is more like a Blog entry and has nothing of substance to be discussed. And it is disgusting to see that such entries have been permitted and all including the starter and those who participated have been paid. This is certainly an abuse of the system though it might not be any violation of Guidelines. I will expect that such people have nothing to do here on the new MyLot.

I've included links to further make a point. And allowing within the discussion itself is helpful because someone reading it may find it useful, but the OP doesn't have to friend everyone to share it. It seems that some FAQs were abused, and myLot allowed discussions that violated some of their rules. If they had issues, then perhaps a form of moderation should have been here. But to request that we 'tattle' on others for any and everything made the process easy to abuse. As for removing the money aspect-it probably has to do with lack of revenue, or their inability to monetize it properly.

I as well as many others have always helped them weed the discussions that went against guidelines out...and for free. that won't be happening any more for sure. I am waiting around to see what it is like but honestly...I think they skrewed themselves. I wasn't here just for the money but the money was what justified me being on the computer to begin with. They are 100% right...there are other places where we can earn money and still converse.

There is both good and bad news. But, I don't think any change is really necessary. Now, according to me mylot will not be unique no more. It would feel like just a different version of facebook. And I just hate Facebook. Let's see what's the new mylot would be like. I will decide later about, will I be here or not in future. I still think, the earning program should not be stopped altogether. the good part is it would be possible to edit or change any discussion, but aditing a discussion would also have many bad effects as well. for example, someone might change everything in the discussion and that means everyone who commented on any discussion would also have to change that. Thank You

Well, I first came here looking to earn money. I stayed because I loved meeting people and conversing. I just think it is cheesy that they are taking away our earnings. They earn after all because of us. Not everyone that relied on the earnings was here solely for the money but the money did help many. I'll give it a shot. we'll see.

Well, that is definitely sad news. I come here not for the money either. But like everyone else, it does help. And I always seen that as an incentive to do more here. Now that they are ding away with the money end of things. I will have to see what will happen. It is good that we will be able to post referral links here. But that will not help that much. I do wish MyLot would reconsider the payments and reinstate them. Look, I mainly make 10 to 15 dollar a month. It's not a lot, but I do give that money to my kids to spend on what they want. I will stay a member and monitor how the site goes. I am almost positive that their tons of members will dwindle down inside the next month. Now I will have to spend more time on Bubblews. At least they are paying. I will be gone for the weekend so I might not see the changes until then. But I am still looking forward to it in a strange way. Also, even though most members say they are not really here for the money, I believe otherwise. Like I said, it is that incentive that keeps them here and coming back. Lets not hide from the real truth. And like I said, I will remain a member and I will promote my other sites on here. Maybe I can bring some members over to some real good sites.
