Did you folks hear about the lion killed in South Africa recently. He had long been living in a park there. He was lured out of the park and killed. A dentist from the US had paid two 'guides' $50,000 to get this trophy. The dentist is now getting death threats and had to close his office. He wrote an apology letter to his patients saying he hopes to get back to it when things calm. Well, the African government has arrested the two men and may charge them with poaching. They are also trying to get the US government to extradite the dentist so he can have his day in court.
Just one more reason I don't like dentists.

@celticeagle It's about time. I heard that something like 100 elephants a day are being killed for their ivory, plus rhinos, lions, etc. It's disgusting. Hunting for food, legally, non-endangered animals, OK, but trophy hunting no.

@dawnald --I must be old fashioned or something but I feel that no animal should be killed for sport. I think the only time a animal should be killed is to feed a family. I have seen videos of men in airplanes shooting down wolves too. And why? Because they were killing their cattle. How long have wolves been doing this? Hundreds of years. Don't get me started on that one. I am a big wolf fan and am disgusted with how men are treating them up here in my neck of the woods.

I have heard and read the news about Cecil the Lion. I'm saddened as well as this incident clearly shows how insensitive and evil humans are capable of. However, it also makes me wonder, why can't we show the same compassion for other human beings suffering far worse conditions?

We do show a lot of compassion for a lot of the volcano and extreme weather victims but, yes, there are still evil humans that just don't get it and never will.

There is no end to human greed and savagery. He should me made to pay a very hefty fine and the money should be utilized for care of more endangered animals

@dawnald And the laws as they stand don't help the process much.

I agree. Sadly the killing of this animal has helped some needed laws be put in place.

I am too. Sad that such a thing had to happen to get such attention to this issue. Killing an animal for fun is evil as far as I am concerned. So many other things he could have done with his $50,000.

@celticeagle I didn't even think about the money side of it. Some people just have too much money and don't know what to do with it. With the impact this story is having on his business though, he may not be able to afford such cruel hobbies any more.
