First Lucid Dream in quite some time

Maybe mylot's homecoming had something to do with it? Kidding. A lucid dream is where you know that you are asleep and dreaming but are able to manipulate the dreamscape. That is just one definition as I have read several others in the past. I have also recently read that everyone you see in your dreams you have met or atleast seen in real life. You may not remember it, you may not realize it, but it's supposedly true. Anyway back to the purpose of the topic. Yup I was dreaming and I said to myself "Self, you are dreaming and crazy! The scenery is gorgeous so look around!" So I did. It is hard to explain. I was walking down a road and in my dream I was not going to turn right. It's as if a block was there and I wasn't able to do anything about it, not until I told myself I was only dreaming and I wanted to see more.

I had some dreams like this. Only one many years ago. But just today I actually fell asleep. and it was a hard deep sleep as well. Anyway, I was dreaming that there was this truck picking up cars, new cars with chains and putting them on a big flatbed. And I was there. But the thing was, I was in my house on the second floor. And a car fell off one step to the next. I knew I needed to move but felt paralyzed. But I forced myself somehow to get out of the way. Not a good dream. A somewhat demented dream though.

It sounds as if your dream started off nice and quickly morphed into terror. I've had a few of those types of dreams and I know they are no fun. Mine usually involve injuries in elevators.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It was scary, but not horrifying. I was too comfortable and that is why I couldn't move. But if I didn't, I knew that the other truck that was picking cars up wouldn't stop and run me over. Strange I know.

yea, lucid dreams are a fascinating aspect of sleep! there's a lot of "guides" on how to achieve lucid dreaming online as well :)

I remember the "guide" that helped me the most was one that taught me to sort of meditate before sleep. I got to a point where all I needed to do was go to sleep and I could control my dreams. Of course this also made me somewhat of a light sleeper for the longest time.

I've heard about lucid dreams countless times on the Internet, but I've never had them before. I'm sort of envious because it sounds like fun, walking around in a crazy world that your mind just made up. Someone once told me about running through door after door in his/her lucid dream because his/her mind has to make outrageous things up in the gist of the moment.

If you give yourself plenty of time before going to sleep so that you can relax in the bed and sort of meditate... It helps.

I don't know if I ever had a dream like this, but if I did, I would want a nice one like your, not some nightmare.

I don't have nightmares very often. I used to have them quite often when I was younger and I think that is why I started to look into lucid dreaming. The overall dream I had last night was kind of disturbing though but not horrifically.

Hi Amber, Cool post! Lucid dreams are awesome, I have them all the time. The last few nights have been very vivid and interesting. I know that when I first started lucid dreaming, as soon as I realized I was asleep I would instantly wake up. I go through periods where sometimes for weeks or months I won't remember my dreams at all, and then I will remember them every day. Now every dream I have is pretty much always lucid. Have you experimented with any techniques to induce a lucid dream? I've heard there are some things you can do during the day, such as saying aloud "am I dreaming right now?" I'm not sure how that helps exactly, but apparently your subconscious will say "am I dreaming right now?" in your dream, and then it will trigger a lucid dream. There are also various herbs that you can buy online that can cause lucid dreaming. I don't know if I can post the link here but if you PM me I can show you a good site with a lot of different ones. I've only tried one of them, called "African dreaming root" which you drink like tea, but it didn't work for me (and it tasted horrible). Apparently it was discovered by a tribe in Africa, who would drink it at night in order to contact their ancestors for guidance. I had two of my friends try it, and they said that they both had wild dreams, so maybe I just didn't drink enough of it. -Zero
