Hello From A New User!

Hello everyone!
I recently heard about this website from a friend of mine who said that it was good, so I've decided to check it out. Before I start posting though, I was wondering if anyone has some tips for a newbie, like how to post constructively, what NOT to post, etc. I know spam and harassment is probably not appreciated. What about linking interesting videos or articles, though? Would that be considered "spamming"?
So hey I guess for my first post, if there are any other new users (or bored veterans) maybe we could introduce ourselves to break the ice? My name is Brian (which I think it says on my profile, but I'm not 100% sure). I'm a 27 year old male, currently living in New Hampshire. I went to college for Computer Science and currently am looking for work in the IT field (not a whole lot of that up here, unfortunately). My hobbies include online gaming, and hiking with my black lab, Tazer. I also play guitar, and listen to pretty much every genre of music. People tell me I am also good at singing, but I'm not always so sure about that.
Anyway, this is starting to sound like a crappy online dating profile, sooooo I'll just mention that I also enjoy fine wine and long moonlit walks on the beach and leave it at that. Hope to hear back from some of you guys soon!

Hello Brian, and welcome to myLot. Sounds like you'll fit in just great, because it's all about interacting and having fun here, and posting stuff that's interesting for others. It's a great idea to introduce yourself.
I'm Sandra, I'm 63, and I'm a freelance writer and blogger living in Spain, although I originate from England. I have a dog who rules my life too - an 18 month old Collie cross rescue dog called Paddy - because we got him on St Patrick's day last year.
As for posting, if you find it interesting, we probably will too. Affiliate links are off limits, so to be on the safe side, I'd be inclined not to link anything. Talk about stuff that's going on in your life and your area, give an opinion on current affairs or stuff that's making the news, that sort of thing. You'll soon get the feel for what fits.

I'm glad I found this site, actually, because it's not always easy for me to find people to talk to (especially in my age group). That's awesome that you've managed to make a living for yourself like that - I've always wanted to be my own boss!! I'd like to see a picture of your doggy, if you've got any! I'll try and find some pics of mine too.

Hahaha, sounds good! In computer language though, you start counting at zero, so basically I'm numba one!! ;)

Hubby has a sister in Meredith N. H., welcome to myLot, which is actually "ourlot". Many of us have history here. My nephew did some kind of Computer Degree with an eye to designing games and has a hard time finding a job that will make a living for him in OKC. He is roughly your age. I know it is hard. I am Heather and I am 62

Hi Heather, nice to meet you! Yeah unfortunately game design is a highly specialized field, so I can imagine it's much harder to get your foot in the door. Has your nephew tried developing anything on his own, or maybe with a few of his college/game design buddies? It's hard to get the experience that most game development companies are looking for, but from my experience writing programs for the Android/iPhone are pretty easy to get started on, or even games for facebook like Farmville. Even if he can't make any money off of the games he writes, having a portfolio to show to potential employers is really helpful, especially when it comes to software development. Demonstrating that he has a sound understanding of basic computer logic (if/else, conditional statements, writing functions, data manipulation, etc) and understands the fundamentals of object oriented programming is a great way to get your foot in the door.

Welcome to myLot. I am a veteran of sorts here having gone away when they stopped paying and am back now not just because they started paying but also because there were not many who stayed to have interactions with. I see them here, now.
You have come to the right place where interaction is the key.
