Maybe I won't be here as much this weekend

This weekend is tax-free for school supplies, so I already planned on doing some shopping, but then while I was in town today, I noticed people on 127 setting up for garage sales and sure enough this weekend is the 127 garage sale weekend, supposedly the world's largest yard sale. I'm also getting Penny and Ciara groomed on Friday, so that leaves little time here, but that's okay, I still have two weeks before school starts on august 24, but this weekend I am hoping to find some good deals! Those in America, does your state have a tax-free weekend for school supplies? And/or do you live near route 127 and will you be taking advantage of this large yard sale?

I don't know if the school supplies refer to notebook, pen ,and the like .I think the garage sales is an unique attraction there ,which must be different from flea market .

The kids start school in a couple weeks and there is a list of supplies that are requested from the school for each grade. The typical supplies like paper, crayons, erasers, etc are listed, but so are odd things like plastic bags, soap, sanitizers, tissues, batteries - schools out here don't seem to have funds for such items!!

@much2say Same here, we have to buy the supplies. I remember someone making a comment, years ago, about how shocked they were because they thought the school tax covers supplies. It does on some, but not all.

Yes, school supplies are paper, pencil, etc...as long as it is under $20 and for clothes under $75. With only one child I should be able to keep under that amount. A garage sale (or yard sale if one doesn't have a garage) is something people all across America do when they want to get rid of some stuff. Some communities only allow certain dates, like where I live they have a spring and fall and unless one is moving, it is forbidden to have a sale. Then there are some communities that are open and people have a sale every weekend. The Route 127 sale is where anyone on this route might have a sale and it draws a lot of people, traffic is heavy. Route 127 is 758 miles long from Michigan to Tennessee.. Of course I will only visit the area near me. lol Here is a link about it:
The 127 Yard Sale, The World's Longest Yard Sale, happens the first Thursday thru Sunday in August each year. It’s 690 miles long and spans 6 states.

I think they do here. As for not being here much this weekend. I know I won't be. My kids are coming on Friday and staying to Monday. So, my online activity will be very limited.

I know that when your children are with you you are not online, so thanks for telling me and go have a good time, after all summer is almost over!

@Carmelanirel2 Yes, the summer is coming to a close. And my son is actually excited because this year, the evil ex, that's what I call her, told him he can do home schooling this year. He seems to be looking forward to that. I am happy that he is happy. My daughter don't want to bother with that yet.

I do not know of any tax free weekends near me. Of course, I am not looking as I am not putting kids in school.

Actually, even though I am going to school this fall, the store didn't now that and I got me a pair of shoes tax free.

I did get a pair of shoes, but when I was at another store to pick up a pair of jeans and a shirty for my son, I didn't consider...it was in another state who doesn't have this. But that's okay, I got 20% off for using my credit card and the clothes were already a good deal on sale.

@cynthiann Haven't had a chance to wear them though. I am either working at my daughter's shop or my neighbor's, where I don't want to ruin them.

I don't think we have that - in fact I would doubt we would ever get such a tax free weekend in CA! I already bought up much of the school stuff - now I'm just waiting on the deals to stock up! I haven't seen to many yard sales in our area - maybe the weather just too hot now.

@Carmelanirel2 We don't have water - and we don't have money - ha ha (or not ha ha!). I think I just read only 17 states have it (the tax free back to school thing) - darn that we were not apart of that list!

@much2say Yeah, it isn't funny and while Ca has no water, places like Ohio and Indiana are getting plenty of rain. If only we were able to balance it out, eh?

I think Ohio only started this a couple years ago, because I heard about it from someone in another state and I checked and found out Ohio didn't have it. So I don't know when they started, maybe Ca will start one soon. Ca. also has had a horrible drought this year too, so maybe that is a factor as well.
