MyLot or Facebook?

United States

I've only been here a few days, but already I've made some friends....and they're not all American! I love the idea of posting to a website and making friends WORLD-WIDE! I love finding out how things are, how people do things on the other side of the world. I like the eye-witness accounts of things, rather than reading articles about how some tropical country is. That is MyLot. I like Facebook, in that it keeps me in contact with family and old high school buddies. But other than that, I'm finding most of my day is here. I have no "friends" on FB from other countries. All of them there, are American. If we had to pick one or the other tho, which one would you pick? For me.... MyLot!

Well, I love both, but for different reasons - all as you have already said. Here we can discuss things and get all kinds of responses. But on FB, it's just a place to share your news (for me, I already know everyone in person there) and they may or may not respond, and with minimal words if they do. I supposed I can say myLot is for internal sharing - FB is for external sharing!

@dpk262006 You may remember I am the one who likes to keep anonymous - ha ha! Actually I have intended to set up an account for online friends - perhaps I should finally do so! I remember how to find you!

@much2say - I know about your choice of remaining anonymous. I wish you open a new account for interacting with your on line friends, sooner than later. It is good to hear that you know how to find me.

It would be hard for me to choose because I mostly use Facebook for groups where online writers help and support each other and trade information. That is harder to do in the same way and as confidentially as we can in Facebook Groups. Many of my writer friends I see there and some real-world friends are also from other countries. And none of my real-world friends are on myLot and they aren't people who would join anything but Facebook. That being said, I spend more time here than on Facebook, even with its groups.

Difficult. I use FB a lot, because I'm a writer, and I'm in various groups and I need to network. And the friends and family are in there too. Here, though, it's different. It's a chill out place where I don't need to keep up a professional veneer because I'm among friends. I make sure my discussions and responses are in good English, but I can pretty much write what I want, rather than what others want from me.

I've only joined today, but I can see how this website could be very addictive. I enjoy websites like this with a international following. Like you, i enjoy hearing about how people live in other parts of the world.

It's 'horses for courses'. Facebook does some things particularly well (such as showing you the events and other things which your friends care to post) while MyLot is about making longer posts and, importantly, discussing topics. Certainly, one can 'discuss' things on Facebook but usually only with those people who are connected to you. On MyLot, your discussions are open to the whole community and anyone can see and respond to another person's discussion, whether they are 'friends' or not. That makes the audience wider and the potential for meeting friends greater than it is on Facebook. Asking which one you would pick, if you had to choose only one, is a little like asking whether you would choose to travel in a car or a plane. It would depend entirely on where you were going! It would be as silly and impossible to take a plane to the next town as it would be to try to drive from London to New York!

Hi and welcome to mylot. Mylot has distinct flavour in comparison to FB. While on Facebook you have no such option to start a discussion on a topic. Here you could start a discussion and hopefully, you could get different perspectives. On mylot you could find writers who put their thought in an orderly and likable manner. Facebook just gives you an idea about others. Most of the things which you could do on FB, you could do on mylot also. Mylot is best.

@yugocean - I am finding it difficult to recall you (please do not take it otherwise). Will you mind introducing yourself again? You could send me a message, if you do not like to share about you here. I have since changed my FB account. If you have one, just let me know your ID or how to search you? Nice to meet you again.

I like them both.. many friends I have on Facebook are my old MyLot friends.. I also have a few other groups where I gathered friends so I do have friends all over the world.. I have made friends on FB too.. one of which although I have not met I consider to be one of my best friends..we have shared so much. It is easier to get to know people here because you are already striking up a conversation in a discussion, whereas on FB you are kinda hesitant to do that because you might seem stalker-ish :) The both have their place..

Both for different purposes. Here I can openly talk about my husband's family, my mother's siblings, and other hard topics with making them angrier at me. I can carry on full conversations and meet new people here and there is the bonus of those pennies. Facebook is a great place to keep in touch with folks on an easy level without too much fuss. I have family far away that I want to keep up to date with. That is an easy way to do it.

i like both as well,.I use facebook every day as i have friends and family in there, and it is the easy way for me to keep in touch with them besides talking ot them on the phone. i like here, because i can be myself, express ,my feelings and learn all at the same time.that is what mylot is about too, helping each other, as we all need that from time to time, and others have helped me as well. i haven't found a better way to be expressive than mylot. Take care, have a great day, and ahppy mylotting.

Facebook, my way to communicate with my family. Although i have met a lot of good friends here in mylot, some are gone, but the bests stayed and we kept on still communicating through emails.

When myLot was gone, I was shifted to FB, and there I become a big name, now I am even Admin in many Popular pages with likes more than 116k. I am making a comeback in myLot, but will continue in facebook where I can post and comment in other languages, mostly Hindi.

I'd hate to know I had to choose. My family's on Facebook and so are a lot of friends worldwide. MyLot seems to be more of a conversational format than Facebook. Two different venues for two different types of communication.

I have been a member for 7 years but just came back when they started paying again. I have to say that myLot is way better than FB anyday. I normally use FB for family and a few friends.

I think there is a place for both sites in our online lives because they serve different purposes, at least in my case: I generally use FB to post links to my articles and check out for what happens in my friends' lives from time to time, but when I want to discuss whatever goes through my mind and discover new people from different parts of the world, I obviously choose myLot.

I think that is comparing apples to oranges...they aren't the same except for a small portion of it.
