Or you will be smashed.. I have these irritating fruit flies that are really bugging me...I put all the fruit in the fridge but they(flies) are still zooming around..I like keeping the fruit out so i remember to eat. And if it is in the fridge i may forget, even though it is nice and cold. Any ideas for getting rid of them?..maybe they are you friends coming to visit me?

I have been racking my brain since you sent this to me. The bell finally went off while I was eating supper. What we used to do is take a mason jar, and with an ice pick jab holes in the lid, put a piece of fruit in the jar and it will attract the fruit flies. When you have a good bit in the jar, stick it in the freezer. It will kill them. Then repeat the process until they all gone. It usually takes a couple of days.

@Rosekitty It has been ummm about 20 years since I had to deal with them, but I know how annoying they can be, and embarrassing too if you have company. I hope you can get rid of them.

I suggest you watch the video @TiarasOceanView shared. I recently had this problem, but I didn't mix my vinegar with water, I used apple cider vinegar and a couple drops of dish soap and it worked.

I have done this as well. It worked well for me. It gives the bugs a way in, but they can't figure a way out and drown.

I put out a jar half full of it and cover it with plastic wrap with a few small (fork tine size) holes in it and it works very well.

Fill clear plastic bags with water - over half full. Secure end and place on counter or wherever you keep you fruit. I have forgotten the word but it could be 'refraction' (?) The flies stay away! We use ths a lot in Jamaica where there are many outdoors eating places.

Fruit flies are tiny flies and when you have ripe fruit on the counter, these flies are everywhere and hard to get rid of.

Got a fruit fly problem? If you eat healthy, that means that you've got a lot of produce sitting around your kitchen. Particularly in warm weather, that can ...

@Rosekitty Oh, potatoes can be the worst! I found myself checking the garden produce on my counter a bit ago.. thanks for the reminder about fruit flies, I had not thought of them at all, and that could be a big mistake!

Another tip just to help if you rinse your fruit, put some baking soda in the drain and slowly pour apple cider vinegar on it. I't clean your drain and lesson the flies.... do this with some of the other ideas below and you should be good to go.

I have an ant strip that catches a lot ofthem, but the ones that won't land on it, land on me. By the time I think about grabbing the fly swatter, it flies away, but comes back again like a boomerang.

@Rosekitty You gor that, always buzzing around me. I am glad though that the ant strips is catching them, as I would have a lot of swatting to do otherwise.

They are friendly, maybe too friendly. Once you take the food away they disappear and think they only live for a day or something like that. Poor fruit fly.

Nobody loves the buzzing sound of flies but we should not hate them because they do what they have been allowed to do like other creatures. We are also a creature like flies. Thanks.

I usually find the flies appear when some of the fruit is getting old and I have not realised, so I check and wash it. Life would be a lot simpler if some things, like fruit flies didn't exist.

I don't have a solution to get rid of them but when I leave fruit out now I cover it so the flies can't land on it. At least I know they haven't gotten to it while I am sleeping. Gpod Luck with getting rid of them,

I hate all bugs. Especially flies. You can try fly paper. At least that might cut down the population of them. Otherwise you have to spend time swatting them.
