Life after implants.

So if you follow me here you know that I had implants in my eyes yesterday, Wednesday. It was a long day. The first eye was no issue to me. Unfortunately, I felt the "cutting" on my left eye. I flinched, and the doctor wasn't too keen on that. I said I can feel that, how can I be still? They ended up putting an entire bottle of drops that numb the eye, in my left eye. It hurt like all get out. When they finally let me go, I could barely open my eyes at all, which I expected. I didn't expect the pain, and I ended up with a migraine. However, I caught it quickly, and eventually in the middle of the night, it went away. I had to take a lot of the nausea they provided, but you just roll the medicine on your wrists, so it wasn't a big deal. This morning I could see clear as day out of my right eye. My left eye was like a frosted mirror. We went back for my follow up, and they discovered a lot inflammation in my left eye (no surprise since they had so much trouble). Incidentally, my right eye was 20/20, and my frosted glass eye was 20/25 (I've never had that good of vision, even with my glasses).. They called the doctor and he said for me to stay there, and at 2pm he'd be back to clean the inflammation out of my left eye. At ten til two they come in to tell me he can't make it right then, so I have to wait until 5:30pm. This time we went home because I was out of my mind with back pain. So finally, at 5:30pm the doctor takes me back to surgery, and they clean my eye out. It hurt like the dickens, but it's done. I have to go back in the morning since they did that additional surgery. My eye doesn't hurt right now, but it's still a little blurry. They told me vision can be blurry for a couple of weeks. And that's not a lie. I did my research, and everything they have told me, fits with the implant surgery. Basically last night was a nightmare. I didn't try to get online last night, or this morning because it was too painful to mess with. I'm not sorry I had it, and I know my left eye will calm down. It's just a bit of a struggle. I hadn't been able to take the pain medication for my back (car accident, subsequent back and neck surgeries, thus the prescription pain medicine) because yesterday they only wanted me to take Tylenol. Thankfully, my back pain is starting to ease now too, once I got home and took my original medication. I've got different kinds of eye drops out the wazoo, but anyway. I've managed to remember not to bend over, even when my neighbor's cat, who had never been in my apartment at any point in time, managed to get inside my apartment when all I wanted to do was collapse. I managed to get her out without bending over, but it was tricky. Enough on my complaining. I'm sick of my own whining. Thanks to those who said a prayer for me. I appreciate it! I know they worked.

I'm glad to hear that you're doing so well now. Dealing with the inflammation had to be awful. I hope that's the end of it, and the healing is quick and without further issues. I'll definitely be keeping you in my thoughts!

@AmbiePam I liked this, but I'm sorry to hear that you're still having issues. Hopefully it's nothing serious and they'll go away quickly.

I sure know what you mean about 'frosted mirror'. I get that a lot. Allergies. My lids stick together in the morning and I have to clean all of that out and then continually clean them until they are clear. I hope yours heal up right away Especially the left one.

Thank you. I'm happy as a clam with my right eye. My left eye, and you'll probably know what I mean, feels like I need to move the non existent contact so I'll see with no blur. As a teenager I had hard permeable contacts, and sometimes you'd have to put your finger on the contact and move it around to the right place to see clearly. I still have the allergy cloudiness you mentioned. I'm continuing the steroid eye drops and hoping it starts to work.

My eyes have been doing that lately too and it had me worried. The last time I woke up with icky sticky stuff in my eyes was when I had a really bad eye infection... but for the past couple months it's been happening again and I was so worried it meant that I was getting an infection again. I wear contacts mostly, so if I get an infection I have to wear my glasses until the infection is cleared up. My glasses are as cheap as they come, they make my eyes look huge, they're ugly, and I get a bit of a headache wearing them for too long (not because of the prescription, but just because I"m so used to contacts). So I really dread infections and needing to wear my glasses! But I wonder if maybe it's an allergy of some sort. I've never had allergies before, but I've heard you can get them later in life. It would make sense because this has been going on for awhile and as yet no other signs of infection.

@AmbiePam Give it time and hopefully that ornery left eye will be doing better. I will be thinking of you when I am getting the film out of my eyes.

Thanks, you've just completely talked me out of even considering Lasik! I'll just spend the rest of my life poking myself in the eye twice a day to wear my contacts. I'm glad you're doing well and I hope that left eye clears up real soon and you get some relief!

I have a better example for you than me. I was sitting in the room with the others waiting to have surgery done (some were given valium, others not). They called one woman, she went in, and ten minutes later she came back out. I asked her if she was done and she said that was it. When asked what she had done she said, Lasik. Lasik costs way less than mine did, it is far less complicated than mine was, and it has been performed longer than mine has. Which means by now they just don't run into many problems. My former youth pastor had his Lasik done by the same doctor I saw, ten years ago. He's never even had to have a touch up.

@AmbiePam No worries, I wasn't really considering it anyway. I do know people who've had it done and had no problems and are happy. It's just not in my cards right now, not an importance in my life. I have a chipped tooth I'd like to take care of first... and I'd like to buy a house and get new furniture... those are all a bit higher on my list than Lasik.

Sorry for asking, but I am quite confused, why did you have to get implants in the first place? That sounded really painful. I hope everything goes well form now on.

That's a good question. My vision is terrible. Absolutely terrible. I get migraines that last for days, and sometimes the migraines make me throw up so much I become dehydrated, or my vision dims to black. These happen several days a month. Originally, we wanted to try a much more common surgery, one that is much easier, and much cheaper (insurance won't pay for any vision problems at all). It turns out my corneas are nowhere near as healthy as they need to be for that particular surgery. So we decided to do the implants. And I have to say, other than the day of the original surgery, and the morning after, I have had no migraines. My unfocused vision in my left eye is occasionally making me nauseated, but it isn't so bad as to actually make me throw up. In a couple of weeks all of the side effects should be gone.

I am totally shocked you were able to be here as soon as this. I know nothing about this surgery, but I thought I wouldn't see you for days (which I didn't, but only because I wasn't here). I am so glad it worked out and how exciting that you can see well now!

Well, the implant isn't as serious as say, a cornea transplant. I mean an implant is peanuts compared to something like that. I can't seem to stay online for a long periods of time, and the day of the surgery and after was horrible, and I just mean trying to see in front of my face. My right eye continues to do well, but my left eye just keeps causing trouble!

@AmbiePam I pray your left eye straightens out for you. But other than that, how does it feel to be able to see more clearly?

Oh, don't let my experience scare you. In fact, my grandmother, and just last month, my uncle, had cataracts removed and they were as good as new. My uncle was overjoyed at how well he could see,and how smooth the whole thing went.
