Life Is A Beach

I have always enjoyed beaches and use to go to Florida beaches for about 13 winters, when I worked summers a tthe trailer park with my parents up in Lake Huron Ontario. I was watching a Documentary the other day called Sand Wars and did not realize that sand is a very sought after, commodity. It mentioned, the beaches in Florida were built with sand from Georgia and Virginia. You need high quality sand to make computer chips. This was a very interesting program. The thing that stood out the most in my mind, was that once you put sand into a brick it is frozen there forever and can never be reborn as sand. If a building becomes vacant this sand in the brick is lost forever. ANother exciting fact, about this is, they are now crushing up recycled glass to make sand to build these buildings. It is a shame that there are so many buildings all over the world that are vacant and unused, in so many places. Sand Wars was a disturbing documentary and very much worth watching. It really opened my mind how much, Sand, is really worth in today's world

Sounds interesting good thought provoking post. We do need to do something with all these empty buildings. It is shame they are being wasted when so many sleep on the streets.

That is a really good point .Let the homeless have them or recycle the old buildings. The problem is they keep building them and they don't get sold. These are new building \I am talking about.

@Suzzycue That is a great point also that no one talks about. I know some plaza's and warehouses with 10 to 20 buildings get made and only one company to three companies moves in and the rest just remain empty for years.

That is my point also. Let the homeless live in them.

There are many vacant brick and limestone buildings in my new town. Given a choice I would have a limestone home. You brought up some interesting information about sand that I never knew.

Indeed , i now realized with your post that sand is very important . It is an important part of the construction of our houses , roads, bridges , malls and those buildings . Amazing !

I had no idea that the sand in bricks would never turn into sand again once the brick was destroyed. Very interesting post
