Just Send Food

I had occasion to call my grocery delivery service (Peapod) this morning about a problem I discovered with a previous order. And I wondered yet again, if there were other choices available? So I went searching. What I found were several online grocery stores. Schwann's was one I had heard of but didn't know much about. Apparently, they deliver to my area. But I hadn't realized before that all their food was prepared, frozen meals. Some of it was reasonably priced, but most was a bit high for my budget. I really have no excuse to spend hundreds of dollars extra on food because I am too lazy to cook. Two other services were non-perishable and non-frozen items only because they are shipped Fedex. A quick check on prices showed they were higher in general than Peapod. Peapod is already expensive enough, much higher than my preferred local supermarket. I shop only specials when I use them. But even Peapod doesn't have the crust to charge $9.99 for a 12-pack of cans of soda. That's more than twice as much as the regular price, and I usually buy the store brands and cut the regular price in half. One service that looked interesting said it shopped at local markets for you. It sounded more like a personal shopper service, but they aren't available in my area. Scratch that. Of course, there is always Amazon Prime Pantry. I haven't noticed exceptional prices from Amazon, but they are mostly reasonable and if one uses gift cards from Swagbucks to pay for it, then it's really free so why worry about prices? What I want from a grocery delivery service is food. I want to be able to afford it and get it brought to me when I can't go get it. I don't want them to cook it for me, and I can't afford gourmet meals. I want reasonable delivery windows and reasonable prices for food that is reasonably within its expiration dates. All I want them to do, is just send food.

The food at Schwann is especially the ice cream. We have used them a lot over the years. I like their frozen meatballs and wings. Their pies are excellent too. I use Peapod from time to time as well, it is a real time saver.

Tonight I wouldn't mind if they could bring dinner over, but probably I will have to cook it. I did want the Pumpkin ice cream I saw when I looked at Schwann, but I doubt I can get just ice cream...

@Rollo1 I would love if someone would deliver an "already made" dinner here right now.

Your wanting is very reasonable. I had groceries delivered once and did not like it.

I prefer home cooked food. It is rarely that we order food and for that we have a restaurant that more or less matches what we cook at home.

I don't buy frozen food unless I am making too many thinks. I normally rustle up something simple if I am not in a mood to cook.. Thankfully the local grocery store will deliver supplies at a moments notice., I usually call them however, they don't always have everything I want.

We do not have online grocery stores, I am obliged to go out and buy my food at the supermarket. The only available service is for frozen food, not prepared, frozen ingredients. I checked the prices and they are all more expensive than my usual supermarkets.
