Digital or Paper Books?

I've always loved reading and even more to buy my own books from a library. I love the idea that they are mine and that I will have them forever, as a memory. I know that digital books are fashionable these days. It was way cheaper because you can buy the digital books cheaper than the paper ones. And it was easier to carry to any place, it is lighter. But I don't know, I am not ready yet to leave my paper books. I like to change the pages, to see myself developing on the book and to see how far am I from the end of the book. I don't know how to explain it but I do prefer paper books. What about you? Have you already changed to digital books?

I read a lot of books. I download a lot of free digital books, but I only buy paper books. If I'm going to spend actual money, I want an actual thing to hold in my hand. There are so many ways that you could lose a digital work. When the world ends I'm still going to have solid copies of my favorite books. Plus, I read books in the tub, and I'm not brave enough to bring my e-reader in the tub. If I drop a book in the tub (and I HAVE) then $5 to $20 is a lot easier to replace than an expensive electronic device.

Not to mention the fact that I would be worried about electric shock if I dropped the e-reader in the tub.

When you have to move them, paper books are heavy. I am moving, and I have about 20000 books. Since a few years I am reading mainly digital books. The reason is not because they are "fashionable", but because my eyes are not so good than when I had your age, and that I can choose the font, the size and set a background color to have something comfortable to read for me. I think it is a big improvement when you are getting old.

LOL - poor Top has to get a lot of exercise! Don't worry, maybe by the end of the move your biceps will be at least 1/4 of what mine are.

I hope to always be able to read paper books. I don't have those problems yet, still 21 years old.

Though I do read some ebooks, I still prefer reading the real books, in papers. The feeling of flipping the book is different from the flipping on the screen. Moreover, I think it's better for our eyes to look at the papers instead of the screen. I like to read articles or some ebooks online, but I still like to buy books and keep them in my book shelf and read. It's relaxing to hold a book, sit on the bed or couch and read. It's even better when the whole family is reading, not on screen.

I do have a Kobo, and I have used it a bit. But like you, I still enjoy buying paper books. I enjoy going to a bookstore, and browsing. I may always enjoy buying books at a bookstore, but I may still buy ebooks and such.

If I want to read an article, then I will do it on my computer. If I want to read a book, then I will do it with an actual book. I know that books take up more space, and there are a bunch of other reasons why it is more "convenient" to have digital books, but I don't think that you can replace the feeling you get when you are snuggled into a comfortable chair with a book in your hands turning the pages as you unfold the story.

@fufurinha I also read with my children, and I couldn't imagine them sitting on my lap and not being able to turn the pages and look at all the wonderful pictures that go along with the story.

I must say that I have downloaded many free ebooks from Amazon. But in fact I rarely will read it. If I buy the normal paper books, perhaps I will still read it when I have a free time. So this is the difference

I've had this same discussion before, I prefer paperback, there is just something about a book that a digital device will never be able to replace. Maybe it's just the smell of a book, or the way you can physically turn the pages, not to mention digital devices die, where you can read a book until it's finished and never have to worry about the battery. I have thus far refused to go digital.

@fufurinha There are few of us left lol. Most people enjoy going digital, but they'll never be able to replace the feel of a good book in your hands.

I am fan of Kindle. So my bias is towards ebooks. I don't prefer paperback which take more space and also more money to maintain them. Ebooks can be copied over each machine and they can be read with just changing the battery. Though they are not good in powerout time though :)

Same here. I still prefer the printed material. There's something comforting. Plus, it doesn't require electricity to read it.
