I am glad that I have not had the chance to be on here. Why? Because I was able to see all of my discussions thus far and know that I had not yet written about this subject.
My Family Ancestry.
My grandfather is doing research on his side of things. Well, more specifically, his father's side of things. So far we have pinpointed down several locations that my family have come from. Both here in the United States and overseas.
Overseas we seem to hail from Shropshire, UK and surrounding areas. Of course this would be our ancestors from around the 1700's. I know that further research has been done for further back but I am not privy to the information there.
Other sides of my family hail from perhaps Germany and Ireland. This is still on my mother's side (grandfather's side) of things. I believe my grandmother (mother's mother) could either have family from England or Germany, either / or.
On my father's side of things I am still yet uncertain. I've done my own research there but was only able to go back five generations. I wanted to find out where hence we hail but could not even leave America in my research.
I have always been interested in family history. Growing up on tales of great uncles and cousins and the like. I have an ancestor born on the sea, though I suppose that isn't a very unlikely occurrence after all. That she survived to be married and have children of her own, however, is. Though she did die in childbed.

Yes that's the problem with those kind of sites. I signed up for a trial on the ancestry site with membership to the overseas stuff as well - it didn't help either way. I was only able to go back five generations. I've considered signing up again and doing my own research on both sides of the family this time...

@ScribbledAdNauseum I'll have to sign up for a trial sometime, but I want to make sure that I have a lot of free time before I do that, otherwise it will just be a waste. So far I've managed to get very limited information going back a few generations, but it didn't look very reliable because my Dad was simply listed by his first initial and surname, gender unknown and the site didn't have a clue as to when he was born.

All i know is that most of my relatives from my father side were mostly spanish descent but I failed to learn the language except when it was my alma matter song. I am mostly filipino and spanish. not sure why dad never mentioned the family line, maybe it wasn't that important.

Not that important, or perhaps something he's not proud of?

My dad has done a lot of his side of the family. On my mom's side I know only a bit. I am Choctaw on that side, and Scots, Irish and English for sure. On Dad's side we keep seeing more and more. I always knew German--the name Grueser makes that obvious. Also some Indian, Welsh, French, Jewish, Swiss.Lots to learn.

So much ancestry and history! How far back on your dad's side have you been able to go?
