Anyone from Ojai?

I know I'll get a better chance of getting a yes response if I ask the question on Facebook or something... But no, I'd like to see if I can come across someone from myLot community who are from Ojai. It's a city in Ojai Valley, Ventura County, California. I was there in the early 1980s and it was more like just a small town back then with less than 7000 population. I understand it has developed more into a tourism destination in the last decades, so I thought perhaps anyone here would have heard or known about the city. It would be fun to hear stories from someone who's been there. Again, I know I can always google and read more about it that way. But it's not the same as actually hearing it from someone who has experienced it first-hand.

I have visited that area in 1986, it's a long time I do not visit California.

Wow, you have? That is so cool! I'm excited to find someone who's heard of the city and even been there. I would have moved to another place by 1986, but I still visited Ojai on occasions or passed by whenever I visited Santa Barbara back then.

@sishy7 That was my second visit to California. We went by car from Los Angeles to San Louis Obispo. We made a two days stop in Santa Barbara to visit the area.

What do you remember about the area @LadyDuck ? I remember running into celebrities like Robert Redford and Bo Derek while there.

I visited Ojai a couple of times when I was in Grad School at UCSB. I have one friend who lives there.

Oh, I can't tell you how happy I am finding more people on here who's been there. How long ago was that? And how exciting it is that you actually know someone who lives there!

The name is vaguely familiar, but beyond that unfortunately I don't know anything about it. I know the feeling of wanting to hear stories though. I remember when I found out about Centrailia PA I wanted to hear from and talk to people who had been there or lived there, but of course my chances were much slimmer as no one really lives there now, it's pretty much a ghost town. I also remember wanting to hear stories about my hometown from back when it was a booming town, but no one really knew anything about it. There aren't even any pictures. All I have is the very few stories I've heard about it.

Yes, that's the feeling I sometimes have about this small town... There's only one main street through downtown. I can still picture the old post office and the small shops along the street - I wonder if they're still there.

As you know, we're a bit south of there. I'm not real familiar with Ojai, but we have been to Lake Casitas a few times (though not in the past decade). We see the signs for Ojai along the 101 but I didn't realize it such a tourism destination - I think of it as a small town too!

Lake Casitas! I couldn't remember the name when @LadyDuck mentioned a lake near there before although I could still remember going there a few times for camping and boating back then.
