The Iran football federation has been suspended by the sport's world governing body for governmental interference and non-adherence to their statues. The FIFA Emergency Committee took the decision after finding the federation was not adhering to statutes regarding the independence of member associations, the independence of the decision-making process of the football governing body in each country and the way in which changes in the leadership of associations were brought about. In August this year, both FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation set a deadline of November 15 for the Iranian federation's elected president Mohammed Dadgan to be reinstated, and to comply with the FIFA statutes. FIFA and the AFC adopted the clear position that Dadgan and the members of his board remained the recognised and legitimate president and leadership of the federation. The deadline was not met however. FIFA added the suspension would be lifted once they complied with the statutes.
