Do you think it is okay to defy the law if it goes against your conscience? If so, what would some instants would you break the law?

I think there are some instances where it is not only OK, but it is our duty to defy the law. An extreme example would be something like in Nazi Germany where people were ordered to kill innocents.

That makes me wonder if it is our duty to fight the terrorists or wait til the attack more on America soil.

@rusty2rusty That's a tough one,but then there are plenty of American terrorists who attack on American soil, and maybe we can fight them by raising awareness.

There will be many times when law and conscience do not coincide. It is important to follow God's laws, but also important to know that the consequences of doing so may mean personal loss. A good example of breaking the law would be to help an injured person by speeding with them to medical care. Illegal to speed, but necessary to care. If I am demanded to injure someone in the name of law I would have to think about whether I need to follow God rather than man.

I really liked how you explained that. I do believe in God.

I believe in following the law. We are supposed to be law binding citizens. I do not want myself to land in trouble, if caught breaking law.

It all depends on the situation. I assume you're referring to this court clerk that is being jailed for not issuing marriage licenses to gay couples. Personally I am not against gay marriage and cannot fathom why anyone would be as it doesn't affect them, it only affects the gay people so others should just mind their own business... but that's a different conversation. If I were in that position and had to go against my beliefs in order to do my job, I"d probably just resign my position and let someone else make those decisions. That way I would not defy my beliefs but I also wouldn't break the law to stand by my beliefs.

Yes, I am referring to the clerk who defied the law. In her mind, she did right. By law, she did not. Was it worth it to her? Only time will tell.

If I was asked to do something, that I felt in my conscience was wrong, but it was the law, then I would have to obey the law, even though I would feel guilty doing so. I hope I am never put in that postition.

I think it would depend on what it was that I now had to do, verses not following the law.

@rusty2rusty i think you are right about that one too. And the thing is just becasue there is a law out there, doesn't make the law right. We have to judge for ourselves what is right and wrong and do accordingly.

The tags on a mattress that is new says do not remove this under the law. Or something like that. We always take that tag off.

You should defy the law when the law condemns you for a crime that you never committed like if someone tricked you into something or if they did a set up on you. Or there are cases when people call other people rapists just because the person is under 18 y.o. without keeping in mind the fact that there are cultures out there that marry their children before 18. There are cases when the girl is 14 and marries an 20 y.o. person and people call him a rapist.

I'm a law-abiding citizen...only when the law makes sense. So many of them don't. Here for instance, the rules on citizenship are very strict to the extent that it makes it hard for locals who are married to foreigners. I've never reached a point where I had to break any law but in certain cases I can understand why some people would.
