Put her on a Greyhound bus...

Yep, I solved my homeless friend problem. No, not like it sounds. I didn't just put her on a bus. She called me up today, and said she had decided that her plan would not work. She can't sit at Kinko's and McDonald's all day and work online sites to get money, and then stay in hotels every other night. First hotel that she called wanted not only $79 for the night, but also a $100 deposit. Have you ever heard of that? The cheaper hotels were nearer to downtown, which would make it hard for her to get back to Kinko's. So she decided to go home. So we looked up Amtrak and Greyhound, figured out that Greyhound was cheaper, and fewer transfers, and she bought a ticket online. Tony and I picked her up and took her to the Greyhound station, made sure she had everything in order, and took her through security. She's going home to her father, daughter and grandson, at least for now. I hope she finds work, and gets her life back together. I feel better than I did yesterday...

That sounds like a very wise decision. Maybe she can stay with family long enough to find a job and get back on her feet.

I hope so. I know that if she had come to stay with me, there is nothing around here and no buses or anything.

@dawnald Well, it definitely seems like the better choice was to go home.

I have been in hotels asking to pay in advance, but never in a hotel asking a deposit and I lived in hotels during years for my job. Returning to her parent's home is probably the best to do for her, as I don't see how she would be able to earn online enough to pay the hotel. It will give her some serenity and the time needed to find a job.

I have never heard of a deposit at a hotel. At least she will feel at home with her parents and maybe she will settle down and find a job close to her home there.

No, that's new to me. I mean, I don't use hotels or anything, but to have to put down a deposit on it seems rather strange to me. But then again, I never heard of going through security at the Greyhound station. It's been quite a while since I've been to one. Times really have changed. Wow...

Security at the Greyhound station consists of a guard and a sign that says "ticketed passengers only", but they let me and Tony through to get her settled.

Security at a greyhound station must be something new they have started.

@dawnald Ah, okay. The way you described it I thought it was like Social Security or the airport!

I do not see how she was making enough to pay for a place to stay and buy food to eat. I hope she finds a job when she gets home.

I don't see how either. She had a little money saved, but not much.
