Old Fashioned Manners Are Still Alive

I often park in an underground car park that has free parking for up to two hours. It's close to the library where I go two or three times a week to undertake research for my current writing project. It has occurred to me in recent weeks that good old fashioned manners are still aive where I live. I often have the door leading out of the car park held open for my by men or younger people. It is so good to know there's still some with good old fashioned courtesy. What is it like where you live? Do you still hold the door for others, or have the door held open for you sometimes/

There are still old fashioned manners where I live. I hold the doors for those who come behind me and people old the doors for me. I appreciate those small gestures of kindness.

It's good to know those silly ideas the world went through thinking such gestures silly hasn't killed them off.

You live in a place where chivalry is still alive and manners exists. I hardly see many people who do this these days.

Once I went through a stage of thinking, hey I can open a door myself, but now I really appreciate the thoughtfulness.

It is instinct for me to hold the door for someone. I agree that this practice is still alive among the younger generation, but sadly is not as prolific as it used to be.

But as long as we show our appreciation the habit hopefully won't die.

I will open the door for others. Quite very recently, I was at the store (just a couple of buildings towards the main roads here) and I saw the holder of the back she was carrying broke down and all the purchases were on the floor. She was pregnant. I moved in and helped her collect and assemble the stuff back. Seeing me do this two others also chipped in. The lady was quite embarrassed but I could see the happiness in her eyes. Enough for me to keep me going for the next few days for sure. I also helped her carry that bag to her place which was luckily near the store. I do understand that many dont do this because they either dont have time or they think helping others is none of their business, but for me, helping anyone in need, and within my capacities is always a step closer to my faith - Humanity.

I current live in southern USA, but I am originally from the midwest. I can tell a huge difference when we go visit the family in the midwest, people just do not say "yes sir" or hold doors open there. It is very common here to have a gentleman hold a door open for a lady.

When I had that accident I cannot tell you the kind of things that were done for me by those who we were dealing with like the cable guy, who shifted the tv close to my bed without charging anything - the list is endless.

Yes, that one is still alive here . But offering a seat at a public transport is so rare now though.
