Can You Hear a Pin Drop?

How quiet is it where you live? We live in the suburbs of Riga, Latvia and day and night it is very quiet. When heavy cars go down our street my house shakes a bit. There are days when I don’t hear my neighbors at all. Right next door is lives a man with two sons and a dog. The one son goes to school in another city and the other one is in high school. Yet, he comes and goes everyday but I don’t hear a thing. They have a Rottweiler and if the dog doesn’t bark then I know all is right with the world. Sometimes I feel like it is just me and my cat in this world. At present my hubby Martin is away on business so it is like living on a deserted island unless I venture out in my garden or go to the store.

@gudheart the best thing is when everything is quiet early morning and very late at night.

It is very quiet even where I live. I am not on a main road, there is a small private roads that leads to our home and the one of our neighbor. They are a couple with two children, a girl and a boy, they go to school in the morning and are very quiet. Another neighbor, not far from us, has a dog. We know when someone is approaching because the dog barks.

@RasmaSandra Sometimes the dog barks because the cat of the neighbor takes pleasure in passing in front of him, but it's a different kind of barking.

@LadyDuck It is great to have a neighbor with a dog for warning. Since we have a cat we have no dog but the dog next door barks and then I take a look to see what's happening. Another good day today the dog hasn't made a sound.
