Ever slept on a stranger while commuting?

I almost did that earlier, almost rested my head on the female passenger beside me. Because I was sooooo sleepy for not sleeping then going to work around 5am this morning, as early as 10am I was so sleepy. This was a slightly sudden change from my usual night shift routine so I had to bear not sleeping before going to my 1st day on the job. Maybe the hot chocolate contributed to my sleepiness because after I drank a glass on our first break I started yawning. By the time it was our 2nd break I was sneaking some sleep in the back during training. Then when it was time to go home, on the bus I dozed off from time to time. Wonder what the woman beside me thought of while I was nodding off dangerously near her shoulder several times. But of course I catch myself just in time so I didn't get to sleep on her at all. I know what she must have been feeling because I've experienced sitting beside someone doing the same thing before. Heck I was too sleepy to care too much anyway. Before I go back to sleep so this doesn't happen anymore, I'd like to know if you ever did this too while traveling somewhere? Ever slept or tried not to sleep on some stranger while commuting? Or were you the one avoiding that sleepy head?

During about 3 years I was taking a train at 5h30 am to go to work at 120 km from my home. It was a direct train, and I was sleeping in the train at 5h35 and was awaken by the brakes when it was slowing down at 6h40. I think I slept on my neighbors a few times. And also I did not awake two times and went out of the train in the next railway station 100 km further.

@topffer Oh no!!! That's terrible! You should have slept on a pretty woman's shoulder so you'd have an alarm clock on the train. People here used to not make us pay for a round trip on the train too. Until they changed the policy that is so if you get caught well that's another story.

@owstalaga I was working as a task officer, and I had nobody to tell me that I was "a bit late" as I was not paid for the time spent at the office, but for the job to be done in time, but it was not a good example for others to arrive at office just before lunch time.

@owstalaga The main problem was that I was 3 hours late at my job. The railway company employees were nice : I was paying a monthly subscription for my travel, and they did not asked me to pay a ticket to go back to my railway station when it happened. Not sure they would be so nice today.

I cannot remember I ever slept on the shoulder of a stranger in a plane or a train. I cannot sleep when I travel.

Oh, then you're like my friend, she can't sleep outside at all. Even if she only has an hour or two of sleep she won't sleep a wink.

@LadyDuck Oh but I bet planes can be comfortable to sleep in, but maybe only if it was in the first class seats? I dunno... I've only experienced being in first class buses and they are the best when it comes to sleeping the 8-10 travel hours away.

@owstalaga This is a bit of a problem when you have long international flights.

It has happened to me but I was on the other side. Someone slept on my shoulder in the intercity bus. I was coming home from my hometown and it's a 4 hr trip with no internediate stops so many people sleep in the bus. I prefer to listen to music and look outside the window or read books. That time, there was a guy next to me who was sleeping and at some point he rested his head on my shoulder. I felt uncomfortable and didn't wake him up but the lady behind me made a loud comment and he woke up. He was really embarassed and I felt bad.

Good thing the lady behind you came to your rescue! If that was me I'd move slowly out of the way before his head ever reached my shoulder.

@owstalaga I wasn't paying attention to him, I was listening to my music when he slept and I didn't expect that to happen. That lady saved me indeed.

LOL I must admit I have never done that before. I would be so embarrassed if I did.

I would be too if my head landed on her shoulder! Brrrr... Good thing it was a woman next to me, but I would have liked it more maybe if it was the cute guy I saw at the clinic I went to before going home. My head would probably stay on his shoulder if he doesn't wake me. But then again I probably wouldn't notice at the state I'm in.

Yep, I've slept enough since then. Don't usually like to ride in private vehicles because it's traffic anyway and I don't like to drive. The secret to sleeping during public commute is to sleep light.

@owstalaga there aint no public transportation in these parts, not e'en a taxi so one's gotta drive their own 'round here. can understand it in other places though, that need fer such 'n i'd prolly be with ya 'n prefer to take it 'n let somebody else 've the responsibility 'f dealin' with those folks who think they own the road.

I would hate to fall asleep on a strangers shoulder.... and I would not be happy about someone sleeping on me ether...but its unlikely to happen because I am one of these people that can't sleep while travelling, whether in a car , plane, or train.

Well it's good if it hasn't happened to you yet. Indeed it pays to be alert when traveling too.

Oh that must have been embarrassing for the lady. Let's call this activity the "sleeping on the shoulder in public" syndrome.
