Out Visiting the Neighbor Horses, Wait... Don't Touch that Fence Wire!

It was supposed to be a casual visit to the horses down the road. It was supposed to be a happy interaction. And then I found out that the electric fence was on, and I found out because the horse found out through her mouth!
Poor baby, as I was feeding her over the fence some slid out of her mouth and reached the fence wire. Considering she bolted at once I can only imagine that the charge went up the grass and into her mouth. She ran back and refused to come forward. I threw some more grass her way and fed the other two.
And then the one bucked her head because of the flies after her. It was a small movement at first, but I knew a larger one would follow. I put up my hands to ward her off and said "Wait, don't touch that.." But it was too late, she got zapped through the chin. I felt so bad. My poor friends.
So for the rest of the time, whenever I picked grass I threw it well over the fence to the ground on that side. I didn't want to leave on a bad note. They seemed to understand that it wasn't my fault and were happy for the attention, even if it did come with a price.
Do you ever take time to visit with animals that aren't your own?

I let a stray cat room under my place. In return it eats the rodents that would invade during the winter.

He might have liked it.
You made me think of something important. Isolation is not a joke for any living thing. Yes healthy interaction.

@Bluedoll Unless you need the isolation for a certain health reason. Ebola patients are good in isolation for the good of many!

Yes, everyone likes to be acknowledged, whether human or not. Our horses were visited all the time by other people. It was healthy for them to interact with others. One person would braid the mane of our male. I thought that was funny.

If I wasn't a mile from my place I might have gotten them something. I don't have either of those and there aren't any apples on the trees because the late frost killed the blossoms.

@OneOfMany You were gentle to give them what you had. Horses are wonderful animals.

@LadyDuck Yep. I used to nap on our one when I was little. It was a comfy place to lay down. And then when he got going I would slide off his rump.

Well the sweetest stuff I had available was clover that I was picking as well as the grass.

I had horses growing up, and the electric fence we used was very light (although I've never heard a dog cry more than when he hosed it down). The strength can be much stronger. The shocks I was hearing through the weeds touch the line sounds like a higher frequency.
