As a child I have been fascinated by chess. It is one of the games which never stops amazing you. They are so many variations,so many openings,so many styles of play,so many kinds of players. It really feels like a deep vast ocean and you will love swimming in it.
As a kid I learned to play chess,my parents didn't know the rules.I didn't have internet back then.So I did not know all the rules.I learnt the rules from some senior guys who new half baked rules actually.
Finally after I learnt all the rules I was quite good in this game and I felt great.
Then it shattered one day when I entered to the deep field of chess that I learned that I still was a novice and I have much yet to learn here from.I got to online chess forums, computer chess games.I must say I have improved a lot.
But I must admit I enjoy chess a lot when I play it for recreational purposes, for fun rather than competitions.
Chess is a game which takes a lot from you mentally and emotional just after a single game.So being fit is a must here. And playing chess keeps your patience level higher. So play chess and lead a good life!!

Never liked chess at all. With too many things to think of, I'd rather exert my brain on other efforts.
I did play a few other strategy games as a kid but now I rarely do. I prefer Scrabble over Chess.

@mkrnex Scrabble is a word game. It's more fun for me. Hehe. Somehow strategy games come off as manipulative so I'd rather not play it.

@owstalaga Oh! I see. Manipulative teaches you the real world which you will face in your life. I feel it as a life lesson. There is betrayal, loyalty, leadership, teaming etc

What is Scrabble? Yes many find it exhausting to play chess. But if you love it then you will like it. I like strategy games than racing or shooting games. As strategy is more real life and fun. It is like slow addiction. But sad part is most strategy games needs the player to invest money in it to succeed rather than play great.

I have played chess for nearly sixty years.
My old Uncle taught it to me when I was only a young boy. He used to put a rook and a king on the board for me, and only a king for himself.
He taught me from the end first, by teaching me all of the ways to checkmate someone.

@mkrnex Yes, then he went on to teach me the other mates, with two bishops, two rooks, a queen, a rook and a bishop, a bishop, and a knight, the hardest of them all.
After that he placed eight pawns and the king on the board only for each of us, and I learnt then how pawns worked best too.
