"a smooth sea never made a skillful sailor."

i feel like this quote relates to what ive been going through lately. ive been having a difficult time with my job, and knowing what i want to do for "the rest of my life." im confused on what my next moves will be in that arena. im also trying to become healthier and get back to when i was in my best shape, and im struggling with that. sometimes i just feel like im fighting a lot of battles on every end. i know i am very lucky and blessed to have things that a lot of people in the world don't, and i dont want to seem ungrateful but everyone goes through hard times, on different scales. so i came across this quote and felt it related to what im feeling lately. i just have to keep going and stay strong, and realize that these are the things that can either make you stronger or break you down. does anyone have a story to share? was there a time in your life where you specifically felt like everything was falling apart but you made it through and something great came out the other end?

kinda like how it takes pressure to make a diamond and polishing to make it shine. But yeah, Ive been there. It doesnt seem like it at the time, but often later I was thankful for the lessons I learned.

That is one thing for sure! But then a good sailor also doesn't rock the boat, when paddling up-streams, so you'd better go easy about things.

@sprinklesare4winners When you move up-streams, make sure you don't lose the paddle!

@sprinklesare4winners I have had many times like you are talking about and I am now older and bit more wiser from the things I've suffered. I am still learning how to turn it all over to God and He helps me when I do. It's the turning over to Him that I still haven't quite got down yet. He is there for you too. Are you a believer in Jesus Christ? John 3:16 says For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life?

Hey there, Lauren! Most of us go through these hard times, and, as you said, in different scales. I see life as an unstoppable battle. Everyday is a new war. We have our goals and we have to work hard to achieve them - and sometimes they seem far away. There are also times when we don't even have a clear vision of what lies ahead: sometimes we don't know what we want. As the quote says, a smooth sea will not make a skillful sailor. That's why we should take the opportunity of each hard moment and of each hard situation and turn that into some sort of lesson. I'm pretty sure that, by facing your problem by the right angle, you'll soon find the light in the end of the tunnel. You'll get there!

It seems the harder you do things the worse one feels..try to relax more and let some things come natural so it won't stress you..

Life keeps going while we are trying to make plans and mine is like that. Everyday is a battle to keep the ship afloat, I am used to it and happy to be able to keep going. It never changes always some battle here friend. You have a good quote there and yes it just makes us stronger. Good Luck Lauren.

I have felt that way many times in my life and yet it always works out for the better. You will get through this difficult time even though it may not seem that way right now.

I was in your position once, years ago. I never regretted having to go through the experience though, because it brought me to where I am now. I guess we all have our own struggles, internal and external. Hang in there.

We should not just move along the wind direction everytime. We should sometimes pierce the wind(obstacles) and see what is on the other side. It will eventually lead to success.
