Time for something mindless...

No, not this discussion - though you may decide it is mindless once you've read it. I like to take a half hour out of my morning and do something mindless away from the computer. Usually, this takes the form of watching some rerun of a sitcom and playing a game on my tablet. I get up between 5 and 5:30 every morning. I get on the computer and work on several sites. By 11 o'clock, I need a break. And I like to break with a nice cold drink and a sandwich, or a snack. When my mind is refreshed, I can get back to doing what I need to do. Of course, I sometimes take a longer break in the afternoon, or just wander away for hours. But that's not my plan usually. Do you schedule time online? Do you schedule time offline? Do you do useful and practical things or do you do something mindless for a break?

I normally wake up around 6am before everyone else - and then I have about an hour to be online before the morning rush begins. But then the rest of the day, my online time is "here and there" - whenever I can fit it in between all the errands, taking and picking the kids up from school, their various activities, house chores, etc etc. I just make sure I am online at the computer table - and never on the phone when I'm out!

Thank goodness I don't have to make all those runs to the daycare and school anymore. I think I spent half my life at work and half on the road. All I manage to do is keep things from becoming something the news would label " a house of horrors" but beyond that, I stick to my computer chair.

@Rollo1 Ha ha - I better look out for the news crew - they might come over to do a news story on our house of horrors! Yep, for now I'm the run around mom - and for quite a while yet!

I suppose I get tired of anything I do for too long. That's normal, I think. Even fun outdoors can get tiring.

@Rollo1 Ally wears me out if I let her, she thinks she's a greyhound ..... well, she does have a tad husky in her veins.

Now that sounds familiar. My kitty decides I'm done computing and punctures my ribcage with her claws. Then I play with her for a while and when she goes for her naptime I get back to what I was doing. There is no ignoring ten little holes in my side.

Yes sometimes because I don't have a job anymore outside the home so the internet is my money now Just wish I had more time like I used too! It seems like I had more time when I was working a part time job outside but they ripped everyone off, now I have a bad problem with my knees anymore it is hard me me to walk for so long and sometimes well most the time it is hard to drive.

When you have to be at the computer for working and earning, it can take a little of the fun out of it. Then you definitely need a break.

Coming on here is my break from real life, whether mindless or not depends on my mood

Well, I am not saying I am not mindless here, too. Often, I am. This is a lot less stressful for me.

Same here. Real life happens out there rather than in here. This is an extra indulgence for me.

I don't schedule computer time. I get everything in my daily life that I need to do first and work computer time in when I can.

Well I dont schedule it per say, but on days that I am off, every hour I have to get up for 5+ minutes and move around, doing things that dont involve a screen

I start the day with coffee and news and crave a break so I can catch up with more news. Not exactly mindless but I have to get my news fix.

I get most of my news on the internet. Twitter is the first place news shows up, but if it looks very dire or happening now, I sometimes turn on the TV. Then I get tired of the talking heads who really don't know what is going on any more than I do. So I go back to the net.

I have no set time when I am online. I check my email when I first come in, and then I goto my notifications and start posting comments to the ones I had ressponded to before. I will post other comments for awhile, and then I will take a break and do other things for awhile, then come back in and post some more. It does me good to take breakds periodically so I can refresh my mind to do more again.

@Rollo1 Yea, that is what I am doing now. I took a beak for bit, and now I see several notifications waiting for me.

Travel time for me is mindless time. Why? I spend about 4 hours from home to work plus from work to home travel time. But wait! there is more! Guess what? I work in the field as a processor so I go to government agencies with about 1 to 1.5 hours from work. Too much mindless time for me.

I think it's good to take time out and just do something mindless as you say. It gives your brain a chance to relax. For me, I like to go for a swim, walk, or just lay in the bed playing around on my phone with the TV on in the background. It's usually on the Food Network channel.

I play a couple of games on the tablet, of course there are always household chores to be done. But, I really try not to do any of those...

I'm already mindless. LOL. Actually, I like to take breaks from my online work by going for walks, or watching movies or working on the afghan I'm knitting for a gift. I can't just sit in front of the computer for endless hours, as it quickly gets boring.

I could be online for years and never get bored. But I do take breaks. Soon I will have to start crocheting warm things for the long, cold, winter.

@Rollo1 Yup...that sounds like a great idea. I already made scarves for hubby and myself so that's done. I am now making an afghan for my mother-inlaw. Probably make something for my parents and my brother as well. Hope I have time....

@Rollo1,You are right.Sometimes we need to break free from our shackles.Working ceaselessly for the whole day makes us rigid.I can't keep sitting before my pc indefinitely.Sometimes I forget everything I do or have to do everyday, and get myself be engaged in mindless activities such as going out in torrential rains without putting on a rain coat or taking an umbrella. These activities do not let me go rigid and inflexible.

A walk in the rain refreshes the soul as it drenches the body.

I come in my computer room between other tasks, to me this is my break.
