My son was in a bad accident yesterday

He was in a hospital in Montana after an elk crossed the road in front of him and he swerved to avoid hitting it head on, but clipped its rump and rolled seven times. They released him two hours ago on condition that they see doctors in Utah as soon as he gets there. They already know who he's to see - wouldn't let him go until they did. Thank god he was strapped in because his head went through the sunroof and his scalp was peeled back. they had to staple it back on. They also discovered his C7 vertebrae was fractured, but thankfully, not through to the cord. No broken ribs, but bruised all over. Possible broken wrist and elbow, but I don't know yet. I'm waiting to hear when his wife will be leaving to meet his ride in Idaho Falls to bring him the rest of the way home. I want to fly out. My daughter's boyfriend said he wants her to fly out. So, maybe we'll be having a family reunion over this one. I know he'll be a while healing from this one. I need to see him. I hope I can get out there.

I sure hope you can fly out to help him. I don't know if he lives in Utah or Montana but hopefully all will be fine soon for him to get the help he needs so he can come home..I'm sure you and the family are nervous wrecks from all of this..i'd be going out of my mind from the worrying..Keep us posted and hugs

He lives in Utah. It's a 19 hour drive to get home. He hadn't gotten too far when the elk appeared in front of him. All I keep thinking about is how if his scalp got peeled WITH a seatbelt, what would have happened without one!! I can't imagine losing him.
His wife began crying when they told her her husband had been in a bad accident - they had to quickly tell her he was there and wanted to talk to her. She's picking him up in Idaho Falls, meeting his coworker there so he can go home to HIS family. That's one great dude staying with him all this time. I'd like to shake his hand and hug him!

@Rosekitty I think you're right. He's been through some really tough times to get where he is - including overcoming an addiction problem (on his own) so that he could get the job he has. He has since been promoted and bought a home in February just before his 5th child was born. He is an example to his kids and his nieces and nephews. they all look up to him - even his older half brother comes to him for advice in different things. He loves his job and his family and has become the man I could have never imagined him being for a long while, but had always hoped to see.

Don't I know it - and I know he realized it as well. He did get to spend a lot of quality time with his kids while he was healing, but he realized just how close he came. He's back at work as of last week and will be on the job until next week (two weeks on, two weeks off). He's happy to be back at work, but was a little nervous as well about the "what ifs". He's very grateful, though, for how it all worked out. As are the rest of us.

I´n SO sorry!!! From what you tell, he had a narrow escape. I hope he takes care so that everything heals as soon as possible.

I need to call him again. He had all his doctor appointments this last week. I want to see what they said about his neck. I'm worried most about that. But, he is up and about and goes to the playground with his two youngest kids and wife (only has to walk out the back gate of their yard) and is feeling much better than he was.
