Off to the new job now

My first day at work. Been in this situation so often since day one at school, university and numerous jobs, mostly on temporary contracts. My mum still hasn’t spoken to since I stormed out of the dining room during her unprovoked hostile comments last night dismissing my entire work history over the last thirty years as a a non-event, and offered zero encouragement or a simple well done to me for getting this role. Nice to be left demoralized by my own family. I realized that I am chronically devoid of clean plain dark tee-shirts, needed as part of my uniform. The sports wear provider sells shirts with loos on so though I can wear what I like, including jeans, tee-shirts have to have no writing on them. Apparently they don’t distinguish between a jokey image of Mickey Mouse and a football team shirt. Hoping to find time in the morning to buy some plain ones. Wearing my only suitable one now. I have to go to work earlier today for induction, so shopping has to wait a day. I’ll be offline most of today now as not allowed to use computers at work, and out for drinks with non-work related friends after work. Arthur Chappell

I hope your first day is going well. It's never easy to start a new job. I hope it turns out to be one you like very much.

@Marcyaz You are right, I believe it's a matter of temper. My mother-in-law was always ready to encourage me.

The first day is always quite an ordeal because of not being familiar with either the place or staff.

Hope your new job goes well for you as to your mother are you sure this attitude of hers was not deserved as it sounds like you don't commit well to school or jobs. Why haven't you bought a new shirt before now instead of waiting til the last moment.

@arthurchappell Sorry to hear that Arthur, it is always nicer to prepare but wonder why now so many companies are taking so long to get back with people.

I was not sure the job was ever going to happen. It got so long waiting that I had written them off. I also expected a little more time to prepare. As you can see from my other posts today It didn't exactly go according to plan anyway.

@Marcyaz many hire agency staff so they have a big pool of staff to pick from - it's a case of waiting to get trawlered in with the net - such jobs are easy to get but not easy to keep as they can replace staff easily -interviews often involve one question only - when can you start? they treat agency staff badly with an if you don't like it there's plenty of others who will attitude. Unfortunately such work is often the only source of labour taking me seriously.
