Remembering Helium

I was inspired by a post I read from the other site about the site that first led me there to begin with. That site was Helium, and it's where I first started to write for profit. I joined Helium 7 years and one month (and about 11 days) ago before they offered their upfront payments that really got me writing there. I loved the idea of passive revenue and it's the thing I've missed about it the most. Not having to interact everyday and being able to walk away for months (as long as there was at least 1 rating star) and still getting paid. I didn't make a lot, but enough to get paid once a month, and most of the time not having to post anything after a certain point! Of course like all things it deteriorated, and when they changed their site over to a new layout, it was the beginning of the end. That's why I was worried when the other site went to change its layout, I was pretty sure lightning was about to strike twice. And it did. I was a channel manager and a fact checker over at Helium for a short time before the site changed. I used to participate in the contests and even have a mouse pad I still use from Oktoberfest in 2012. I wish the site had managed to last longer, but all things end. I'm still hopeful to get passive income back into my life. I think it is a great thing to have.

@OneOfMany I guess so, I am still not sure whether anybody has been paid here as yet ? I have not come across anyone claiming to have got paid or else I have missed any such discussion ...

I wandered away from Helium when I could have made money and wandered back just a year before they closed up shop. But in the beginning I sold a few marketplace articles and in the end I won a few contests. But I never really loved it, and I hated the ratings system.

I enjoyed it because I liked the passive income. Plus I could drop a story or poem and go elsewhere, and see how much each would make over its lifetime. I loved seeing the stats. The rating system was annoying for everybody.

I wrote for Helium as well. I did not make much but I didn't exactly work hard at it either. I think overall I had about 50 - 75 articles and made like 65 dollars or so.

That's a pretty good amount considering I had to write a lot to earn. Although I had a lot of creative writing pieces too, and they were small little things.

I too was a long time Helium writer and it was the first site I wrote for and made good money. I stopped writing when I felt they were going downhill but still collected residual income. It was still a pity to see it collapse.

That seems to be the process. Write for something and then back off when we get that 'the ship is going down' vibe.
