While commenting on my "Midnight has struck" post I realized that we are all Pen Pals . . . like in the olden days when local magazines introduced people that wanted to collect stamps and be Pen Pals in foreign countries.
well we are not collecting stamps, but we are making a wonderful group of Pen Pals.
Don't you just love it? Did you have a Pen Pal in your younger days?
I had one in Holland and one from Canada!

I had penpals from four different states in India. I could not afford to have penpals from foreign countries as back then I was in school and the postal things were costly when it came to international postage.
Eventually, somewhere, it became difficult as we grew up - they became more engaged in their life and me with mine. I did try mailing them even after college (that was about 4 years after things started breaking) but I believe that their addresses changed or even they were busy otherwise.

@thelme55 That's neat. In some ways it's easier to get to know someone through correspondence than in person. You can talk about what matters instead of worrying about how you look, etc, like you do when you meet in person. I've had some of my best conversations through the mail because I have time to think before speaking.

i never had a pen pal in my younger days, I never thought about us being pen pals in here, but it certainly makes sense. We chat back and forth, and have not seen each other once. Have frneids as pen pals in hee, is very cool, and I am glad for everyone of them.

I was obsessed with wanting to have penpals but hardly had any. And now there is an overdose of it here. This is better than being penpals. There each time we wrote it would take eons for the mail to reach at either end. We used to collect stamps too.

I had a pen pal in high school that I later looked up in real life. What a story that was!

I think my class may have had one, but I never really had one personally, or if I did, it didnt actually work out for long. There IS a website now that has a version of that called postcrossing, you send post cards and get post cards from others who also participate. the addresses are random, its pretty neat.

@Inlemay it is free and super fun. for every post card you send (request an addy, send it, make sure to add the code so that the receiver can log receipt of said card) earns you a post card coming your way. I have a wall of post cards from all over.

I had a pen pal from Massachusetts in the fourth grade. I still have pen pals, and lately have been gathering some more.

Oh, I missed those times when I felt excited and kept on asking the postman if there was a letter from my pen pals all over the world. I started writing letters to my penpals all over the world when I was 11 years old. I did it to polish my English language and to know what other people in the other sides of the world do. My marriage is a product of having penpals.
