Missing Files Found. Case Closed!

Not all Mondays are bad! Wait...did I just say that? Oh my gosh, what did they spike the Kool-Aid with today? lol A week ago, my boss asked me to go back into the records room and look for two files among hundreds of boxed files dating all the way back to 2009. One was a file from 2011, and another was a file from 2012. I spent the entire week going through the mountain of boxes, only to have zero luck in finding either file. And of course it didn't help that there is no orderly method for how the boxes are stored and stacked. Boxes are just strewn all over the place, and boxes from different years are mixed in with each other, making it nearly impossible to systematically find what you're after. So, it was with a loud groan that I came in to work today to find a note from my boss asking me to find two more files back in the records room. I figured if I still hadn't had any luck with the two files from last week, I probably wasn't going to have much luck with the two new files this week. I slowly shuffled my way back to the records room, and grabbed the first box I came to. The only way to complete a project of this magnitude was to jump right in and take it one box at a time! Much to my surprise, as soon as I opened the first box, there were both files laying right there on top! Success! What a way to start my Monday, and it set the tone for the rest of the day. How was your Monday!

@moffittjc When things are very unorganised, I feel like I want to have a panic attack lol You did good!

I stay calm enough where I don't go into a panic attack, but the OCD person in me wants to re-organize and straighten everything and put it in a system that makes sense to me!

@VivaLaDani13 I'm not really OCD, but I do like to keep things neat and organized!

@moffittjc I know what you mean! My Aunty once wanted me to clean her kitchen cupboards but kept interfering and it was causing me issues lol because her way of organising wasn't making sense to me nor was it very logical to me. I have OCD so it was hard to deal with.

That much digging and all that disorganization would drive me bonkers, I'd end up reorganizing as I went, I just wouldn't' be able to help myself.

@moffittjc right, at least getting the boxes together by year and not all jumbly. Then if you have to do this again, you will at least only have a year to dig through and can organize those again as you go by month or something. I actually like that kind of organizing, if I am left alone to work my way anyways

That's pretty much what I spent some time doing today! I've decided that it can be done so much simpler than it is currently. It's not my responsibility, but I hate seeing it disorganized the way it is. By the end of the week, I'll have it looking good, as well as very neat, organized and structured.

Sounds like they need someone to organize their filing system. But at least you look like a hero, coming up with them so quickly. I guess Mondays aren't all bad.

Whoever is in charge of the records room needs to use some common sense. Keep all the boxes for year together, so all the boxes from year are in one place, all the boxes from another year are in another place, and so on. Makes no sense to mix boxes together from different years!

A pleasant surprise. I remember the days of disorganized files. When I worked in car dealers, they had all the old files upstairs. and they never actually organized them. They only were separated by year, nothing else. So, since the files should have been organized by vin # they were all over the place in file cabinets. I remember having to find files that were impossible to find. But being the person I am, I did not stop until I found them. And while I was at it, I started to organize what I could.

@moffittjc I know what you mean. I hate things all over the place. I need them in some kind of order. Why look for days for something that could be found in 5 minutes.

I would rather have everything stored nice and neat and in some kind of order. I'm not OCD or anything like that, it just makes the job so much easier. I guess I am kind of a neat freak though! lol

That was indeed a stroke of good luck. I hope you made your boss wait for the files anyway otherwise next time he asks you to find a file he will expect it just as quicly

Boss was out sick today, hence the note to me to find the files! And since Boss was not in, I waited until the end of the day to announce that I had found the files! I know, I'm bad!

Heck, I may have played that one a bit. You know, took a couple extra days pretending like I was still looking—just borrowing some time. lol

I’m not going to lie, I’ve stretched some tasks out longer than it should have taken just because I wanted the extra time, or because I was procrastinating or just being lazy.

I hope so too. But, from my experience, if I have a great Monday, that usually means my Tuesday will be brutal.
