Lassoing A Fly!

A few years ago my family got together for a barbecue. I can’t remember if it was a holiday but I know it was in the summer.
Anyways, my sister and sister-in-law were sitting and talking and all of a sudden I see my sister holding onto a fly and my sister-in-law had a piece of long hair. Well she was tying that hair around the fly’s head and the next thing I know they let go of the fly and held onto the hair and that fly was flying! He flew near my brother and he kind’a backed up like some beast were after him and we laughed hysterically.
We were all laughing so hard. Then others took turns holding the hair as the fly flew. Eventually they let him go and he flew away with the hair attached, LOL. What a wonderful time we had. Get together's are not very often but we have a ball when we do get together and there's usually a lot of laughter.

I imagine him getting tangled up in a tree or some other place. LOL I'm not sure how they caught him. My attention was not drawn to what they were doing until I saw what looked like an operation going on. Their heads were close together and all eyes were on the fly. LOL

As kids, I did see some of my friends at school doing something similar with dragon flies. They would catch one and tie a thread on its long body. It was supposedly fun to them, but I felt bad about the fly because it was always harmless.

I don't know how but I know they did and it was hilarious to watch them and then watching the fly fly while they held onto the piece of hair was even more hilarious

I think the fly was just humoring you! I thought flies are too fast and sly to put themselves in such a situation!

Yes I wished I had gotten it on video. I could have sent it to Funniest Home Video's probably would have won. Who's ever heard of lassoing a fly?

@Butchcass4 Yes, I remember very well "Midnight in the garden of good and evil". there was a crazy man who had four flies attached to his hat.

This really is one of the most unusual stories I've heard. I didn't even know a fly can be lassoed. Kudos.

quite an accomplishment to tie the knot so small without crushing the fly

The thing is that a dragonfly is so much bigger than a fly and it's easier to tie a thread on its long body but a fly? That is soooo not easy and moreover, they were using a strand of hair to tie it.
