Slips - They Slipped Out of Sight

Are you old enough to remember slips? A slip was a garment that you wore under a dress or skirt. It helped the outer garment to look smooth and flattering by keeping it from clinging to your body. Nowadays, it seems all clothes are designed to cling to your body. That's not always a good choice, depending on the body. Foundation garments in stores that are designed to smooth and flatter usually take the form of head to toe spandex. They could be tummy-controlling panties or full spandex pants that go the full length of the leg. They have "torsettes" to control the flabby upper body. It is over these that one wears the clingy dress. Personally, I liked slips. They made everything feel more comfortable. But you never see them in stores anymore. I used to have a few that belonged to my mother, but even those seem to have disappeared over the years. Maybe slips became less popular as women started wearing more pants than dresses. Do you remember the slip? Do you still own one? Were they a better idea than the spandex body suits?

I remember them, and hated the extra layers. i'd rather wear clothes that one wouldnt need a slip to begine with. I've had some of the spanx and such, and if I need to have some, erm, coverage, think those are more comfie than an itchy slip. oh and hose.... I dont even own anymore. HATED hose.

Pantyhose wasn't too bad, but I am sure you never had to wear stockings with garters. Now, that was a horror show.

@Rollo1 nope, glad I missed that one. I totally hated the whole gravity issues with hose, unless you got them big enough they might fall down, they rode down constantly/ Which reminds me..... I have a hose horror story, off to go start a discussion on these, lol!

I can still buy slips here, not all the shops have slips for sale, but most still have them. I have one silk slip that I really like and a couple in nylon that I bought many years ago. Do you know that Amazon sells slips?

@Rollo1 Yes, it's incredible how many items they have for sale. I have checked Amazon Italy and I see that they also sell slips (sottoveste) this is an idea for a gift for Mom, she still wears them.

Yes, I still have a couple of slips in my dresser drawer. As they are making clothes thinner. The slips come in handy.

Do you also remember walking in such a way that the slip showed specially if it had a pretty lace!

I thought I still had some. I must have deleted them from the wardrobe during one of the moves.
