My daughter is in the second grade, her teachers have told me that they doubt she has any kind of learning disability. She struggles with reading and I feel that the school can only do so much? Does anybody out there now of any way I can help her become a better reader at home?

Sit with her and help her read every day. Get flash cards and place different words she needs to learn. Such as spelling words. Work with her and quiz her on how to spell each word.

Practice, practice, and practice. I take my daughter to the library at least once a week. We pick out new books that interest her, then work on reading them together throughout the week. My husband and I discussed a prize system to encourage her to read more books, but that's proven to be unnecessary.

You have to dedicate some time to be with her and strictly for reading. Be very patient.
