End Is Nigh Evangelists

I was cutting through Manchester city centre. As ever these days there was an evangelical fire & brimstone preacher yelling a need for us to repent now for our salvation before an impending apocalypse, on a cheap portable PA system. I listened for a few minutes. He was very articulate and bright. He shouted a speech that was unscripted though he may have used the same speech many times so it was virtually memorized. I just felt that his time and fearless energy was being wasted when he could be communicating in offices or on a club circuit though such might run counter to his beliefs. I felt sorry for him rather than happy that he obviously finds some value in his beliefs. He clearly has bravery, charisma and talent. It looked so terribly squandered. Arthur Chappell

He will surely convince someone that the apocalypse is coming. He could use social media instead to speak in the street.

@RasmaSandra it is annoying for shop workers nearby who hear him for hours at a time too

@arthurchappell Wish people would not do that. They should preach among groups with similar thoughts. Doing this he's liable to give someone a panic attack.

I recall my childhood days when the street side evangelists were a normal sight

Piccadilly Gardens - actually on Sunday afternoon, though they are often around. I was in town today too so probably not far from where you were. Some of my observations don't make it online for days after I make a note of them so I don't forget to use them later. I try to avoid specifying exact days and times for things

@arthurchappell I was at the local precinct on Sunday and only passed through the city on my way home, which involved a bus to Shudehill and the Metrolink from there. Most other days I would travel to Market Street tram stop and no doubt notice anyone making a speech.
