The house with two front doors

I am running low on plant pots, so I asked on Freegle if anyone happened to have any spare plastic plant pots they didn’t want. A lady not too far away offered some, so I arranged to call in today on my way to the shops. I found the right house, a semi-detached place on the outskirts of town. I rang the bell and when the lady opened the door I had to take a step back as it opened outwards. I told her I was quite interested in this, as we need a new front door and have been considering an outward-opening one as the space just inside our door is narrow and people can get wedged in the doorway! She said ‘Oh yes this one is OK, but our other front door is nicer, I’ll show you in a minute’. She took me through the house to the back where she had a big pile of plant pots for me to help myself, then round the other side of the house to the front and the second front door, which was indeed a nice one. The thing is, this second door should have been a different house; they must have bought the adjoining house as well!

It is unusual to have to front doors. I would not like to have an outward opening front door, if someone is behind and you wide open the door, you risk to hurt your visitor.

Yes I'm not sure about that either, but at present visitors risk getting stuck in the doorway as they try to leave! Our present back door does open outwards, but of course visitors don't usually come to that.

Is there a Freegle or Freecycle group where you live? It's a great way to get rid of stuff you don't want and also gain stuff you do want!

I suppose an outward opening door makes sense if there isn't much room inside. I wonder if the woman had a big family as they'd made two houses into one.

I don't know, I was quite curious if perhaps grown-up children lived in one side or something like that, or if it was just one house inside because on the outside it was still two houses, with two driveways, two doors etc.
