Eventually gave up and bought a mobile phone

My previous mobile ceased to work a week or so ago and despite trying hard to transfer the contract to an older mobile that I have I was making absolutely no progress. Last night I looked online for a cheap basic model, which would suffice for the remaining 6 months of my contract. A few quite cheap models were available, although they all seemed to be offered in turquoise, pastel blue or some other embarrassing colour. However, someone was advertising new Nokia 107 dual sim mobiles on Gumtree, so I called him this morning. This is plain black and therefore acceptable, with adequate features for what I need. To my surprise this mobile was available for £20, which has to be a great bargain. This is the first time that I have ever had a dual sim mobile, but it is a very useful feature. I bought a sim for Lebara while I was out to utilise the spare sim slot. I expect most people will be aware of Lebara, who specialise in cheap international calls. Right now I am downloading the Nokia PC suite so that I can transfer my contacts etcetera onto the phone.

Glad, yet sorry, to hear that you have finally thrown in the towel on the busted Sony Z1. What a palaver! Out it up on eBay, you may recoup your £20. Or better yet see what value ut has at one of the mobile phone recycling websites.

I cannot envisage it really being a marketable product in it's current state.

@pgntwo Oh, now that does sound like a good idea. I may enquire around the local repair shops to see if any of them are interested.

@Asylum Before you do, search eBay - you will get an idea of the value of your screen-less Z1.

Lebara is also present here in Switzerland, together with Yallo they have the best International fares.

Lebara appears to be everywhere that I travel to. I have never really been interested before, but having a dualism certainly made it something worth consideration.

@LadyDuck Roaming charges have fallen vastly in recent years, but they are still quite expensive compared to standard call rates.

@Asylum I am planning to buy a dualsim, so I can buy an Italian SIM when I go to see my mother and I avoid paying roaming fees when I call Italy. We are so close to the Italian border that we can use TIM or Vodafone.

One of my earliest phones was Nokia and it was pretty basic. I am happy with basic phones, mostly, but they fit my needs. As long as the phone fits your needs, it's a good purchase.

There are a few small features that I would have liked, but none that arereally essential to me and at £20 I certainly have no grounds for complaint.

Nokia has a few dual sim phones. It is really good. When you travel overseas, you can buy a local prepaid sim card, and use it to call home.

I have never considered using a dual sim before, but the feature does seem a really useful one.

Nokia old models used to stay like 10 years or more. and i found them way better than other models. I wonder why those phones are reducing.

I do not even have friends in this country Gary, but decided that I needed a phone in case I ever got a friend.

My mobile is in baby blue color skin - it's not embarrassing!

It may not be embarrassing for you, but I would certainly feel uncomfortable with it.
