Unbelievable Bad Luck!

During World War 1,the Germans had the bright idea of disguising one of their ships, as a British vessel, so they could get close enough to ambush the enemy. So they chose one of the British ships, to create a clone of, and promptly set to work, on the disguise, the ship, whose looks and name they had chosen was the RMS Carmania. Eventually, with work completed, the German ship set sail, in all her British regalia, with her sights set on ambushing, the first enemy ship they came across. Unfortunately, that first Brit. ship, they ran into, was the REAL RMS Carmania, who promptly sank the German look-alike......Now that has to be.'.Unbelievable Bad Luck', in anyone's book, doesn't it ?

That definitely is bad luck. What are the odds of that happening really. Well, all their work was done for nothing.

@bookbar I guess they weren't too on the ball. A blunder is a blunder, that was a disaster.

That is an interesting story, which I've just checked up on. I wonder why the Germans decided to disguise a 3-funneled ship as a 2-funneled one? That suggests a tricky bit of engineering was needed below decks!

You would expect that they would at least have tried to monitor the whereabouts of the original vessel to avoid such an incident.

A part of bad luck, but also a part of stupidity, they should have monitored where the real RMS Carmenia was so to avoid to cross its path.

I was going to say the same thing as @Asylum . If they had studied that ship in detail in order to copy it, you'd think they would have an idea where it was.

That 's a lot of work to go down. Surely they should have been able to check to see if the coast was clear, if you know what I mean. Well their bad luck, our good luck, right?

That is bad luck. War is not funny but in this case hard not to laugh.
