I would like to know the stand of MyLot regarding posting pictures and clipart from those sites that offer them for free, no obligation. Is this accepted here on MyLot? Or is it against the rules 100%? Thanks in advance for the replies.

The TOS pretty much put the onus on the user. You are responsible for making sure you have permission to use the photos you upload. If there is copyright infringement, you are liable, not the site. So, use only the photos you own or get from free sites. I always include the URL if I pull a photo from pixabay so there's no question.

I have checked the rules and there is nothing specific about photos and pictures, so I suppose that we can use the free images available on sites like pixabay. When you add an image there is a box where you can add text, I believe that mentioning the source is always a good rule.

Thanks Anna, yes mentioning the source for the picture should be done.

An interesting question and a difficult one to answer for certain. It may depend on the conditions imposed by the original source because despite allowing free use some do insist that they are to be used for personal use only. With Mylot being a pay site it could be construed as commercial use, depending on how it is interpreted. The only way to be absolutely certain would be to ask the Admin here. My opinion would be that it is acceptable, but I cannot be sure and would not want to give you false information.

Thanks for your opinion. Yes, it is open to interpretation, so that's why I am worried about this.

@marlina I wouldn't think there would be cause for worry if you do put your source down on your page and if you only use free to use images. Before the b site made pixabay available on the search option, didn't you provide similar pictures on your own prior to that? Even when sites don't stipulate on putting the source down, it's the easiest way for us as writer's to find where we got the photo's if someone her wonders.

As long as the copyright notice states that it is "free for personal or commercial use", then you can legally use it. You can also use images where you own the copyright (meaning you have taken/created the image and as long as it's not a screenshot which includes a copyright image) or where you have specific permission from the copyright owner to use it.

What they said already, below, is the best way to handle photo's on any site.
