Landfill Trees!

It is estimated that every year,4.68 million trees are used to make 'phone books' and directories, of which, around 2/3rds or more.simply end up in landfill sites.
WHY?
How many people still use telephone directories, in a Digital world, where access to everything, is so easy and quick, with the click of a button, or a swipe of a screen.
So why do these companies, carry on printing them, wasting resources, that are no longer plentiful, as they once might have been.
When was the last time you thumbed through a Phone book, and do we need them?

YEARS and years since I last picked up a telephone directory. I use the internet for finding phone numbers and NEVER phone directory enquiries. What a rip off those companies are!

I rarely used the pho book at home even before the mobile phones began o give us the option of storing all relevant numbers. In fact, most people would have a personal telephone directory containing all the numbers that they would be likely to use on a desk next to the telephone.
When we need a new number that we did not know, that usually involved telephoning Directory Enquiries, which was much quicker and simpler.
British Telecom still deliver the new telephone book to my home, along with the Thomson equivalent. As you say this means that I have to walk to the dustbin to dispose of that unwanted junk.

As BT own all the UK landlines, regardless of phone provider, why don't they just ask and cut down on such mindless waste?
