Went to a surprise 40th birthday party today

I got invited to my late husbands cousins surprise 40th birthday party. It was at 1pm today. My son was born on her birthday almost 8 years ago now. I expected there to be a lot more people there then there was. I thought when I got there that maybe I had the time wrong. More trickled in but as large as the family is I was surprised that there wasn't a lot more guests. It is homecoming weekend and a lot of other local events so maybe that is why the turn out wasn't better. One of the firsts guests to arrive other then us was one of my son's best friends Jack and his family. Jacks mother went to school with the birthday girl. My son had a blast playing with his friend at the party. We had no idea he would be there ahead of time so it was a great surprise for both boys. There was so much food and it was so delicious. I had some of their homemade apple cider. I posted a picture of the cake. We left around 3:30 when my kids were tired out and wanted to go home. They hadn't cut the cake when we left so I didn't get to have any. There were lots of other yummy treats I got to enjoy though. After we got home I was exhausted I laid down and read my book while dinner cooked. After dinner I took my kids to ride their bike / scooter for a short while. We came home and the kids got their baths and we read two more chapters in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. 3 more chapters until we are finished. I can't wait to go onto the next book and movie in the series.
