are there things normal people can invent anymore?

A long time ago there were lots of things that needed to be invented, the telephone, the phonograph, electricity for homes but now it seems the normal man cant invent anything of value. I watch shark tank by accident sometimes and the things that are invented by normal people are garbage mostly items that are a variation on things already in existence.
the normal man cant invent anything these days unless he has a degree from a university, no more inventing things in your garage in your spare time like a straightening comb or gas mask or streetlight now all we can invent are things like teddy bears with a tape recorder in it to record a parents voice for a child or a device to flatten bacon while cooking.

Wise King Solomon said there was nothing new under the sun. I think that applies more today than it did then. Of course there are modifications to existing things that can make them work better but with all the copyright and patent laws now it is hard for anyone with a creative mind to come up with something new,
I'm still waiting for the time I can say "beam me up Scotty"

Unless an invention is in the field of technology I guess it's hard to come up with a new idea
