What a stinking hassle at Kmart today. Issue with surprise points and lost my card.

Today I went out shopping mostly for my sons birthday. First I dropped off a trunk load of things to a donation place and picked up a few bags of clothes and things for my kids and I.
I had email from Kmart telling me that I had $20 in surprise points off any $20 purchase. So basically anything for $20 would be free! I was thrilled and went and picked out a toy for my son that was about $23. I paid for it and then stuck my shoppers card in my pocket where I had also put my cell phone.
I noticed that instead of using the surprise points it used my reward points and then used a different offer which was $3 off any $10 toy purchase ... then used my reward points. So while this should have been pretty much free.. it wound up free and took $17 out of my reward earnings which is like cash back.
I went to customer service and the girl there called the shop your way headquarters who put me on the phone to explain why there was a mix up.
What happened was there was more then one online coupon loaded to my rewards account. So instead of being able to choose which coupon to use at that purchase it automatically applied the lesser one which applied to toys. She kept insisting I used a coupon and I told her that I didn't. So in the future I can only pick one offer to load to my account at a time or it will make a mistake like this again. You should be able to choose which coupon you want to apply to what purchase just like any print coupons you use anywhere else.
There was no way I was going to miss out on that $17 I had earned as cash back. The girl on the phone was pretty rude but she credited my points back the way they should be and now my account is at the correct cash back amount of $32.
So as if this didn't stink enough in the process of simply walking from the cashier to the returns counter somehow I lost my rewards card. I looked everywhere and asked the cashier and it was just gone. I am worried that someone picked it up and is going to drain my card of the reward points that I have accumulated. I will be keeping an eye on my account for usage when I am not using it.

Glad you got the toy free, it does help in any way. But I hope someone saw your card, picked it up and brought it to the return desk or something. I am not sure how those cards work, most of ours you need a password to use the points, etc.

With Kmarts rewards cards you don't need a pin to redeem your points if you have your card with you. All you have to do is swipe it and tell the cashier you want to use your points. It would be very easy for someone to steal the cash back points on my card off of it.

No if you have the card with you all you have to do is swipe it at checkout and tell the cashier you want to use your points. If you don't have your card then you need to know your pin number. Until I lost my card I had no idea what my pin number even was and I have had the shop your way rewards cards for many years. With the card I just had no reason to need to know the pin number.

I told the customer service person on the phone I talked to at the main headquarters what happened. She sent me an email with the member number and pin number but that doesnt really help if my card was stolen they can still get my earnings off of it and use them :-/
