While I was at Lincoln Grade School, I had 2 music teachers...Mrs. Correll and Miss Williams (she taught 5th and 6th grade bands).
Mrs. Correll would push an upright piano from classroom to classroom when it was music time. She would also let the students choose handheld percussive instruments from a box that she brought with her. It was a really big deal to me when I was allowed to play the autoharp.
Miss Williams taught her students how to play the variety of instruments that made up the band. Her conducting was firm and not flowing. I cannot remember the year but Miss Williams conducted the LGS alumni band through several rehearsals for a fundraiser so that the school could purchase a new stage curtain for the gym. I remember her saying that she enjoyed conducting a band made up of grown-ups.
Even though this next person was on television, I consider him to be one of my earliest music teachers. I loved watching "Young People's Concerts" that were presented by Leonard Bernstein. He taught many music topics and conducted the New York Philharmonic Orchestra during these show. A few of the topics included were "What Does Music Mean?" and "What Is A Melody?" I have started watching "Young People's Concerts" on YouTube and I have been enjoying them immensely.

I don't know how it is in Europe for having or not having music and art in the schools. It really wouldn't have to be on a daily basis. It could be a couple of days a week for the elementary school to start. I really enjoyed being a part of music and loved art classes. My drawings look very juvenile when doing freehand. But when I draw while looking at something, I do much better.

@LadyDuck Cool.
At least you had that much. There are schools here in the U.S.A. that have neither art nor music. Such a shame.
