Nod and Say “Thank You”

Every time a vehicle stops to let me cross first, I always nod and murmur “thank you”. I know that zebra crossing prioritizes the right of way to the pedestrian but a simple gesture of gratitude will make a difference to the person inside the car. Let’s make a difference to everybody’s life. Let’s make someone happy every day. How about you? What is your small gesture to make this world a happy place?

It really annoys me when I let someone out of a side-street in busy traffic and they just ignore me. I always give a little thank you wave when someone lets me out.

Everybody's reflexes may not be as good as yours. Sometimes it is old people. My father is 81 and well, when he goes out I am tense. I would rather he concentrate on road for his sake and for the sake of others. I am sorry..I know he should have courtesy to say thank you but if that can take away his concentration from driving, well..I don't want to even think of it.

See? That is why the small effort of saying thanks has big impact. Please do not get weary in giving way for pedestrians like us.

Specially in Manila. If you will cross the street, the car will not stop, they will honk until you run on the other side. Tsk tsk.. What happen to our people these days?

i do the same, 'tis jest a common courtesy. i do my best when i'm out 'n 'bout to acknowledge folks i see 'n yet don't know. a simple smile, 'how're ya today' 'n the like goes a long ways 't times to touch someone's life. downside 'n then some folks think yer jest a weirdo :)

@wiLLmaH oh yes it is. . We think it's a matter of shame to smile to your subordinate or some lower level employee. .on the contrary I think it's ur humility if u do that

It is nice to do that, but not always possible, especially if you are herding children, or there is other traffic to consider. I once didn't acknowledge a car that let me cross and the driver yelled at me. Well, that wasn't very nice and I would prefer he didn't let me cross if his gesture came with a specific price. Acts of kindness should come from a generous heart, not just to get some kind of reward.

To me, it comes fairly automatically. It's like an acknowledgement that we are part of a team, trying to make it through the day together.

@kevin1877uk If it costs a dime each, maybe people will automatically say "thanks" in every small favor given to them. And we are already rich. haha!

Yep! Many people are not saying thanks. I don't know if they will lessen something on themselves if they gave out a small 'thanks'.

I do that to when I cross and the car would give me the way. I smile and raise my hand to say thank you even though he can't hear me. Yes we should do that that they will do it to others. It's like a ripple in the water, when you touch the water the ripples go further and further.Gesture of thankfulness can go a long long way

It is good on your part to say thank you, when a vehicle stops for you to cross the road. Here at our places, traffic runs in a haphazard way and sometimes vehicles even cross red lights. Pedestrians do not care to walk on Zebra crossing, they walk unmindful of vehicles coming their way. Whenever I communicate with someone, I try to finish my conversation with a 'thank you'.

Now I know I am not alone in doing that. I also do that because I must show how I appreciate the kindness given to me. Saying thank you is a good habit and I believe we always have to do regardless of how big or small the favor given.

i have a habit of always saying thank you after I get checked out at the store, as the person took the time to scan my groeceries and bagged them for me. i also say thank you , if someone holds the door open for me. I say thank you a lot so that is my way of making this world a happy place.

To me, it varies, depending on where you are. On my road trips to places like Montana and Iowa, I notice a lot more courtesy, both from pedestrians and drivers, than in Northern California, and the Bay Area in particular.
