What happened when I tried to use sat-nav

In the summer we were staying at my parents’ house, where I grew up, and planned a day out at a stately home about 12 miles away. I had never been there before, although I have driven past it quite a few times; I had an idea of where it was, I just wasn’t quite sure which road I should take after passing through town (the local town I have been to hundreds of times). My partner thought he could solve this problem by using his phone, which incorporates sat-nav, so he set it up and stuck it on the dashboard. I started getting irritated straight away when it told me how to turn out of the driveway, and when we reached a junction after about a mile and it ordered me to turn left towards town I just shouted ‘Oh F off!’ My partner quietly took it away again. I don’t think he’ll offer to use it again. We found it without any problem. This post was inspired by a comment by @katsmeow1213 All rights reserved. © copyright Fleur 2015.

I've had lifts to my house off people who would rather take directions from their sat-nav than me - it is annoying and insulting.

@Fleura I find the voice of a sat-nav usually bugs me after a while

Yes it's funny how people seem willing to accept a 'back-seat driver' if it's electronic!

I cannot stand Sat Nav, my niece has one and I always ask her to turn if off if we want to reach the destination.

I agree with you! If we want to reach the destination without smashing the sat-nav, it is definitely a good idea to turn it off!

@Fleura One of my friend followed the instructions and after half an hour he realized he was moving in circles and got back to where he started. Ridiculous.

I've never even encountered it, one wrong direction and I'd be over the cliff into the sea!

Such things are great when they work correctly...which is not always the case as you say here.

Fortunately the little people who live inside the Sat Nav aren't offended by swearing.

Sat Navs can be notoriously unreliable and are a last resort.

I use it only when I don't know my road. It is better than to stop to read a map or ask for my way, but it is not always reliable.
