What is your exercise/weight loss program for today?

I get kind of sad when I see all of the miracle weight loss products advertised on TV and the internet. They're all scams, they're insulting, and they don't work. The integrity of people selling that stuff makes Bubblews look like Catholic Charities by comparison. The way to be healthy and keep your weight down is to exercise, and to have the number of calories you expend be comparable to (or greater than) the number of calories you take in. You'll feel better because exercise releases endorphins, dopamine and other natural "happy" body chemicals. And you'll be trimmer, even if your weight stays the same, because muscle weighs more than fat. My plan for today is to get off of my "fatty acids" and go cycling once I'm done visiting MyLot posts and writing two progress notes. (I still use my trusty Trek 820 mountain bike that I got several years ago.) What is yours? Even a brisk walk with a friend is healthy.

@TheHorse it's a type of step counter that also measures sleep, stairs, active city levels Tec.

Wow 10,000 step, well done, I once had a step counter, not sure what happened to it.

True, the only way to stay healthy and trim, is to walk, cycle, jog or work out. I did just however, jump up and down in front of the tv, dance around the sitting room and scream at the top of my lungs, I think I burnt a few calories. But seriously though, staying active is the only way to keep weight down and be healthy. My choice, when I have time, is walking.

I'd say jumping up and down and dancing a bit is good. I'm listening to classical music right now--not the best for jumping up and down and dancing. I'm going to do a few leg lifts and then go take in the sights, cycling.

Hey, anything is good as long as we are moving. I do sometimes do a bit of military walking with the music.

@TheHorse , no, classical music, is not quite meant for jumping up and down. Enjoy a peaceful morning and your cycling. :-)

I agree with you about all those "miracle" diet products. What a scam! I have already done 45 minutes of walking today and will do another 15 just before dinner.

That sounds perfect! Easy on the knees. A good workout. And you can bring a friend along for conversation as well.

I walk every day for about 40 minutes and I use a recumbent bike to exercise every day. Those miracle products are ridiculous, I was showing one to my husband this morning. There was a "before & after" photo of a woman... incredible, she not only was down 40 pound but also looked at least 20 years younger in the "after" photo. I cannot imagine someone can believe this.

@TheHorse Nothing has changed, we believe that we have evolved, but I notice that in many everyday things humans are always the same and too ready to believe everything they read.

@LadyDuck Will there still be snake oil salesmen out there 100 years from now? In some ways, not much has changed since the 1800s.

I love walking, it's a great form of exercise and another plus is I get to enjoy nature while doing it.

When you're walking you're burning calories and also releasing healthy body chemicals.

i agree! whilst some folks lose the weight while'n that 'band wagon', they tend to gain more back when they stop...'n most all stop. 'tis all 'bout lifestyle changes 'n gettin' off ones duff is key 's well 's sensible eatin' habits. seems there's jest so much 'excess' bein' pushed 'round via adverts 'n such. folks jest seem to cave into the weakness... i miss ridin' my bike out here, used to put'n 'bout 10 miles a day. too much traffic now 'n i'd dislike bein' road pizza. e'en'n days i can't get out 'n 'bout, i make many a step here in the house. fer me its essential. 'n good days i get plenty'f exercise jest tendin' to the horses 'n putterin' 'round my lil sanctuary.

@TheHorse there's some bike paths 'round here, jest requires ya to load up yer bike 'n go into town...'n a major 4 lane road...with lots'f traffic. jest aint my cup't tea. yepperz, workin' with the critters - cleanin' corrals, haulin' hay, fixin' fences keeps ya in purty dang good shape.

Working with horses keeps a person moving. And little disagreements with them keep yer arms strong. I agree--don't want to wind up as road kill like some aramdillo. We have bike paths around here.

I'm one of the lucky few and not put weight on since I was about 20, still the same waist in a pair of jeans I was 30 years ago. I love to walk and will walk miles even better with my camera in my hand, I once cycled to work but got the train back, 18 miles into work. I ran for many years, running in half Marathons and Marathons. I hope you enjoy you cycle ride.

@TheHorse yeah running can be hard on your knees, I know my knees kill me back in the UK but while over there I could run and my knees never hurt. It's too damp and cold here, to much moisture in the air.

@kevin1877uk So a dryer climate is easier on the knees? I hadn't realized that!

Running is hard on my knees, unless it's after a fly ball. I'd say you have a good combo of genes and enjoyment of a sport that lend itself to keeping a body in slender shape.

I do too. My almost-daily hikes with the kids are glorified walks, with some uphill and a little light rock-climbing thrown in.

Aside from 30 minutes walk everyday, husband and I hit the gym once to thrice a week.

For some reason, I rarely visit the gym. Sounds like a good idea, though. Especially in Winter, when doing stuff outside is harder.
