Where there's smoke, there's a man

Why is it that men like to burn things? My husband found scraps of wood in the yard when we moved in and he made a pile. I kept asking about that pile. His answer, some day I'll burn it. Today is that someday. He has himself a nice little fire out back where he can play all he wants. It won't take long to burn itself out, not like our neighbor's burns. That guy has a burn barrel and burns almost daily. They never go shopping, I don't know what he has to burn. We joke around that he must go out and collect trash during the night so he'll have stuff to burn. Unfortunately the wind usually blows his smoke in our direction and smoke fumes make my sinuses and asthma go crazy. At least in winter when he burns I'm inside, so that is something to look forward to.

We are not allowed to burn anything outside, we can only have an outdoor BBQ, but must be careful that it does not annoy too much the neighbors.

I wish no one could burn here either, it sure would smell better.

I don't want a burn barrel at all. There is enough stink we don't need to add to it.

We had a neighbor like this when we lived more in a country setting.

We're in the country and there are pretty much no rules.
