Dealing with Spammers on Mylot

Mumbai, India
October 20, 2015 11:22pm CST
Today I would like to discuss an issue I am facing from the time I have joined Mylot and I am sure a lot of you must have faced the same. I bring up discussions on Mylot focusing on my daily activities, interests and answers to questions I want. However there are few people who instead of answering on the discussion go off track and ask about our personal details either through a comment or through direct messages. Such a thing is very disappointing as by doing so they are hampering the main objective of mylot which is healthy knowledge sharing medium. Would like to know your suggestions on the same as to how to handle them.

The easiest way to do that is block them. And that stops them permanently from troubling you.(Not if they start another account)

@anushreem And you can report them too. It will force their accounts to be deleted but no mercy upon spammers. I just don't like them or what they do.

OH I had this happen to me and it totally made me angry. I politely told them it wasn't their business and then they kept it up and I refused to answer again. After the 3rd time I deleted my response to their post and moved on. I think it is none of their business to ask so many personal questions and expect an answer from us. I like to keep my life private and especially if someone is asking me how much money I make or implying I make a lot of money to do my job.

Exactly my point! I don't understand why some people deviate from the topic and try to peep into personal stuff

There could be some users who do not post to the point responses to your discussions and instead write something unconnected or may even ask for your personal details, which is not fair on their part. You have an option to 'report' about such mylotters by pressing 'report' button. And you always have the option to 'block' those particular users. If you block any user, they won't be able to see your activities.

Since joining myLot I've actually been pleasantly surprised at how few spammers there seem to be here. Hopefully by ignoring them and/or blocking them the problem will go away and you can start to enjoy the site again!

So this has been going on since you first started here? It needs to be reported. @GoAskAlice is very quick to answer and get things done. Sad that it has to come to this but unless Alex knows nothing can be done.
